MS State’s SEC Viability

Long term, with further conference realignment in the future, what is State’s realistic visibility? It’s a poor school, in a poor state with a very subpar athletic program in virtually every relevant sport?

We will fall further into irrelevancy
State fans I know are apathetic about it and arent donating the money. None are really enthusiastic or confident in our AD.
Until changes are made, I don’t see the wallets coming open

Just go and enjoy. The last 20years have created Championship anxiety that used to not exist.

Hate to say it, but probably Sun Belt.

With the exception of Texas and Florida, most of the SEC states are poor if we’re comparing them to the rest of the U.S.
That said, yes, Mississippi State should consider closing their doors and using the campus as grazing grounds for local livestock.

No one wants to listen but State is going to keep dropping. It’s impossible for them to compete in this era of college sports.
They won’t leave the SEC, and the SEC won’t expel them, but we are going to be a doormat in every major sport (football has already started) and non-revenue sports will quickly follow.
There’s a thread on one of the Stare boards today that points out that State has only finished in the top half of the SEC in football, men’s hoops and baseball, just three times ever in the same season.
The 18-19 school year was the peak for MSU sports. Outback Bowl, 5-seed in NCAAT and fifth place finish in the College World Series.

The worst thing you can do when you hit the doldrums is check out. It can and will get worse if you do.

I dunno about poor. They haven’t stooped to stealing from children’s hospitals quite yet.

All it takes is one donor/booster to get tired of losing like Tyson Chicken was with Arkansas Basketball.

Look, I can’t stand state, but anybody here who supports any SEC founding member being kicked out of the conference is wrong

Aren’t they just a couple of years removed from a CWS Championship? Don’t they have like the best college baseball stadium in the country?

This thread makes me depressed for state fans. They need to just go all in on baseball. There’s no major league team within 2 state lines from them so can draw regional interest in the sport and try as they can to compete with LSU on that front while LSU wears themselves thin competing across multiple sports

Our Lady of The Lake gives LSU so much money these days we don’t know what to do with it all. Feels good

Mike Leach was the coach that could make it happen at Mississippi State over the long haul.
I'm a fan of another SEC school, but I'm still pissed that we don't have him doing Leach shite in the SEC.
If you could have Mike Leach with Jack Crystal it would've been the best that ever was.

They made the NCAA tournament so I’d say that’s pretty good. Baseball they’ve been competitive. They haven’t really been competitive in football in a while but that’s a different animal.

If you take state, we are taking ole miss, vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas and South Carolina with us. Aside from a historically poor past 3 seasons, we won a national championship 4 years ago.
States problem is leadership and current culture. That and supposedly loyal athletic directors jumping off at any and all money vehicles passing by.
Lack of loyalty is becoming a huge problem in Starkville. Stricklin, Cohen both have DEEP ties to Mississippi State and both sold their souls to improve their lot. Honestly, none of yall can relate to that type of consistent betrayal and therefore, none of yall truly understand how bad it is in Starkville. President keenum has supervised a steep decline in academic and has made poor AD hires b2b and clearly doesn’t know how to fix this mess as things continue to spiral downward.
Honestly, I’m beginning to hate part of the fanbase for making excuses to cover for the lack of leadership. We were rolling with Byrne, stricklin, Mullen, Cannizzaro, and a lesser extent, Howland, but our crowning accomplishment in men’s athletics this season was a 3rd consecutive losing season in SEC mbb play at 8-10 and a third consecutive ncaa first round dismissal. It’s BAD and our leadership is clueless. We are completely out of our depth and are incompetent or unwilling to make consistent decisions that will point MSU to success.
It’s poor-minded, losers mentality and complete apathy is another series loss away from busting everything wide-open. We have never been this consistently bad across the board in the big 3 sports on campus. 16th in football, 9th in basketball, and currently 13th in historically our best sport, baseball.
No other SEC team would stomach this type of consistent losing, yet here we are.

Schools will focus their resources even harder towards the sports they think they can be nationally competitive with. And most will take their chances on either damaged coaches or up and coming coaches in football and basketball.
