There are a lot of dumb things in college football right now, portal rankings might be the dumbest.

Right. The teams ranked near the top are either trying to replace a ton of attrition, meaning their retention rates are bad.
Or their current roster is subpar and they’re trying to dig their way out and taking a few too many cast offs in the process.
Either way, it’s not an awesome place to be ranked near the top.

Shouldn't need that much portal action if he built a program that evaluates and develops talent properly. The continuous augmentation of a roster every year through the portal is a recipe for mediocrity.

Strictly based on the quality of players who left my team, the portal is mostly low to mid level players or those who have not reached (and may never) their potential. The true gems are snatched up pretty quickly and are spread out among many teams.
