Was this a 'bad match up' or...

is Ohio State that good? It's a fair question. I think it's a little of both and that it just turned into a landslide. I will use the example of our game against Florida in 2022. We didn't score a touchdown in that game, but we score a touchdown the first 5 series against a much better Tennessee team a week later. I do not see Ohio State doing this again. These are 'all or none' games and those games seem to either bring out the best and sometimes the worse in teams. I don't see a Notre Dame/Oregon title game, I think Notre Dame is a pretender that drew the best path forward. I still think UGA with a 'game management QB' is better than Notre Dame. Texas hasn't convinced me they are better than Ohio State or Oregon so I am going Oregon/Uga in the final. Here's to being wrong....cause I have been wrong too many times to rely on my predictions.

It's what you expect when a playoff takes place in the home stadium of a good team in the freezing cold.
OSU and Tennessee were ranked 6 and 7. Not sure why one rank higher deserves home field advantage.
To me, all playoff games should be played on a neutral field as part of the bowl games.
Don't get me wrong OSU and Penn St. have excellent well balanced teams and would beat those opponents on a neutral field 9 out of 10 so there is no need in inviting blowouts with home field advantage.

Tennessee is below average and everyone needs to accept that.

1) Ohio State might be the most talented team in the country.
2) They got a chance to play an SEC team in their home stadium with playoff ramifications.
3). Tennessee got by all year on their defense and Samson. They are not a complete team.
4) Ohio State had an outstanding game plan and Chip Kelly/Ryan Day is a sick offensive coaching combo with time to prepare. UT was outclassed in coaching.
5) Nico is simply not good. He’s not going to be good. He just doesn’t have it much less in that environment.
This Tennessee team lost to Arkansas. They aren’t a great team. Asking them to go in that environment under those circumstances was conducive for a blowout. Ohio State needed that against an SEC team as well.

I mean their defense gave up the game winning score to OUR backup QB

That makes a lot of sense.

Ever since the Big 10 started letting their teams play in bowls other than the Rose Bowl (1975).,... We have heard Big 10 people bitch about the fact that they have to basically play road games games against southern teams in warm climate bowl games.
They have always talked about how they have to develop "cold weather offense" due to the their November Big 10 schedules... and how this is a big disadvantage when come bowl season.
This was the first time ever that a southern team has had to play a high stakes post season game in a northern environment... And the southern team got routed... despite the fact that they supposedly had a good potion of the stadium rooting for them. Just like Big 10 fans said would happen if they ever got the chance to play a southern team in a cold climate.

I watched the Oregon/ OSU game and both teams were clicking. OSU was clicking again last night. Those 2 are the two best teams in America when they decide to play their A game.

And most likely the two most expensive teams in the playoffs.

100% true on the northern teams having to travel south for bowl games the last 50+ years.
Style of play is definitely impacted by weather, so yeah, Big 10 teams generally leaned on beefy offensive lines and RBs to get the job done for far too long. Never really matched up well in general for those neutral site bowl games where SEC type teams relied on speed.
UT was shell shocked. Probably didn't expect an offensive onslaught like that from tOSU.
The Oregon- tOSU winner will win the whole thing.

Ohio State is good. They absolutely laid an egg against Michigan, but they’ve got a very good offense and a very good defense.
All of you know what Tennessee is and likely most got caught up in their “SEC” love and were blinded by the fact that since the NC State game, Tennessee’s offense seemingly struggled. They lost at Arkansas and only managed 14 points. They struggled the next week with a Florida team that was down two QB’s at home. They squeaked out a win at home over a mediocre Alabama team. In their next real test they were beaten by two TD’s at UGA.
So yes, the writing was on the wall of Tennessee losing by at least two TD’s if you had your blinders off. It’s pretty simple to beat Tennessee. Take away the run and make them beat you passing. They can’t do it.

Meh…It’s just as cold in Tennessee as it is in Columbus lately.

Tennessee is good but not elite. We made the playoffs due to a favorable conference schedule and were matched up against an elite team with a chip on their shoulder. All the “Neyland North” talk probably didn’t help either.

I agree with everything you said other than saying Nico can’t be good.
He can’t throw effectively when his feet aren’t set, but to be brutally honest his receivers were injured and failed to create separation most of the year.
For Heupel to full run his wide split power run offense he needs someone who can take the top off your defense which forces your safeties off the LOS like Hyatt could a couple years ago and they flat out don’t have that right now.
If they can go vertical it means you’re stretched vertically and horizontally which then leaves you wide open to the inside power run game with slants behind it.
Right now Nico isn’t consistent enough when pressured as he was last night and TN didn’t have anyone who could create separation against some of the slower run support guys OSU likes to use so it was just a fight in the trenches and TN can’t get to 20 against elite defenses that way.
The other issue TN has is defensively while their DL is as good as anyone in the country, but their secondary is vulnerable to the vertical passing game. OSU has the best WR group in the country and it showed last night. They started hitting the intermediate passes, TN adjusted a bit which put too much pressure on the DL resulting in explosive run plays and it was all over with.
Ohio State was just a better and far more complete team.

We got exposed last night. Our OL play has been awful and our WRs havent been developed at all, which is probaly why three of them portaled out. Defense looked good but benefited from a bad schedule. Nico was the only one who really looked up for the moment at any point in that game yesterday and it was for about 20 minutes. Staff changes need to be made if we wanna be anything more than a middling SEC team.

Reminds me of 2022 OSU a little: a team with elite talent that sputtered at the end of the regular season, but showed up ready to play in the playoffs. I’ve been predicting this for two weeks - not a beat down this bad but a solid win by OSU. Also, Tennessee just isn’t a NC caliber team.

The two best players on offense for Ohio State last night were a kid from Miami and a transfer from Ole Miss.
The weather thing is a fun narrative, but today’s college football isn’t the same as 10 or 20 years ago. Ohio State was beating Tennessee anywhere on earth last night. They played a “warm weather” style of offense and beat the brakes off the warm weather team.

They puffed their chests out all year with their defense and running game. Sadly, many other SEC school fans knighted for them. They got exposed.
