Welcome to the new, wild world of college football! Bama fans felt like they were sucker punched yesterday when news broke that 5-star DB Mbakwe was leaving for greener pastures in Oxford, Miss. Rumors circulated that he was leaving Tuscaloosa for more money and others said he was leaving because he wanted to play offense and Alabama said no.

How quickly things change! Less than 12 hours later, excitement quickly spread throughout Bama nation when news broke that he was staying in Tuscaloosa after all. Great news, right? Well, now the word is Mbakwe never had any intention of going to Ole Miss, or any other college, and it was all just a ploy for more money. WOW!

Alabama fans are clearly elated he's staying, but it's also left a bad taste in the mouth of many Tide fans, just knowing how it all went down. I think we all knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but the hardest thing to accept is the reality that these 17-18-19 year-old kids hold all the power in college football, whether we like it or not!

of course they did...they just had to pay a back up CB a million bucks and let him play offense.
They are going to quickly find they aren't going to be able to afford a roster full of 5 stars...once you give one the deal..the next one will ask..then the next one. It'll spread like covid...lol.
So..in the end...they will spend a ton of time, money, and resources recruiting and signing all those 5 stars for one season. Then pay them big money again as a sophmore, then again as a Junior....if they can afford it.

Honestly the kids don’t. If the schools would stick together and agree on certain language in its nil deals, then the player would have to accept. If all schools agree to put that once a nil contract is signed, player has to stay at that school for 2 or 3 years before they could transfer, then the player will have to accept if every school agree to do this.

It’s hard to overstate how much the Saban Dynasty relied on other schools not being able to pay players over the table. Used to be some Foley used car dealer could change the course of college football, but those days are gone.

Yeah. Only Alabama didn’t play by the rules. Just like no one is bending what little rules exist now.

Incompetence from Auburn certainly did not hurt. Saban had limited success at Michigan State when he had to compete against Michigan. But when he was the only major school in a state at both LSU and Alabama he did very well.

They don’t have three-teeth redneck boosters in Michigan paying off every talented small-town football player. Again, it’s no coincidence that Bama’s dynasty collapsed as soon as schools that produce functional members of society could pay players, legally.

Obviously Alabama doesn’t need a dynasty to beat Auburn. Thumbs and all that. Auburn actually did better against Alabama during the dynasty. Yikes.

You have clearly never been to Michigan. But why would you ever leave your Wire Road trailer park?

How come Auburn still sucks absolute arse four years into the NIL hoopla? Better yet, ya can’t even come up with a single winning season since 2020?

Embarrassing.

It's apparent he was playing Alabama for more money, but I would one day love to see a 30-for-30 on the action behind the scenes. No teenage kid is going to know how to pull this off, so my guess is that it's probably some scumbag agent calling the shots.

The worst part is every big time D1 school is going to get played eventually, especially when you have no guidelines.

The incredible part is it was only a few years ago that a coach couldn't even buy a recruit a coke and now schools are throwing millions at these kids! You can call it NIL or whatever you want, but it's pay for play, period!

Yeah, imagine if all our bosses got together and said them same.

I hate this version of football. But a bunch of players have never and likely will never see the amount of money again and I won’t blame them at all for maximizing value given the rules.

You are literally describing anti competitive behavior that would be struck down in court immediately. The NFL had to get an anti trust exemption from Congress and they have collectively bargained union contracts.
