Love the guy! Some fans will complain just to complain!
Wish him the best, but just never been a fan. IMO, he was more concerned about himself and not the team. Saw a lot of Kayshon Boutte in him and that's not a good thing.

In a perfect world, I would agree with you, but the NCAA has tried and failed numerous times in court.

It's so out of control now that I wouldn't be surprised to see players getting paid $5-10 a year within the next 10 years. At some point, it's going to collapse on itself because families can hardly afford it now, so something has to give.

I'm really enjoying the new, level playing field.

I'm just curious about Ole Miss because they are doing well in the portal. How much NIL money do they have this year, compared to past years?
It's a hard yes for me! I'm already disgusted with how the portal and NIL has negatively affected college football and it's scary to think what it might look like in 10 years.
The OL was decent, but I just don't understand why we can't have one of those mauling OLs that teams fear. With the exception of the last two years, Alabama's OL used to blow massive holes, and even if the opposing team knew what was coming, it didn't matter. I'm tired of hearing about all these players with 4/5 stars, but they play like a two-star when they get on campus!

He was never leaving.

It's apparent he was playing Alabama for more money, but I would one day love to see a 30-for-30 on the action behind the scenes. No teenage kid is going to know how to pull this off, so my guess is that it's probably some scumbag agent calling the shots.

The worst part is every big time D1 school is going to get played eventually, especially when you have no guidelines.

The incredible part is it was only a few years ago that a coach couldn't even buy a recruit a coke and now schools are throwing millions at these kids! You can call it NIL or whatever you want, but it's pay for play, period!
Welcome to the new, wild world of college football! Bama fans felt like they were sucker punched yesterday when news broke that 5-star DB Mbakwe was leaving for greener pastures in Oxford, Miss. Rumors circulated that he was leaving Tuscaloosa for more money and others said he was leaving because he wanted to play offense and Alabama said no.

How quickly things change! Less than 12 hours later, excitement quickly spread throughout Bama nation when news broke that he was staying in Tuscaloosa after all. Great news, right? Well, now the word is Mbakwe never had any intention of going to Ole Miss, or any other college, and it was all just a ploy for more money. WOW!

Alabama fans are clearly elated he's staying, but it's also left a bad taste in the mouth of many Tide fans, just knowing how it all went down. I think we all knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but the hardest thing to accept is the reality that these 17-18-19 year-old kids hold all the power in college football, whether we like it or not!

You cannot impose restrictions on student athletes that are not imposed on normal students. That is illegal

In theory, I understand what you're saying, but student athletes have been treated differently for many, many years. I feel confident in saying regular students are not walking around with $500,000 NIL deals and other perks.

According Al overview, student athletes typically receive benefits like athletic scholarships, dedicated academic support with tutors and advisors, access to specialized training facilities, sports medicine services, team uniforms and equipment, travel opportunities for competitions, and sometimes accommodations for missed classes due to athletic commitments, which are not usually available to regular students to the same extent.

I can confirm that in all my years as an undergrad and grad student, I never received any of those perks!

You cannot tell college students that they cannot transfer at the end of a semester.

I understand what you are saying, but when you add NIL and the transfer portal into the equation, you are no longer talking about a normal college student. The only way I can see this continuing to exist is to have signed contracts with players that state the amount going to be paid and over a certain period of time.

What's happening to Marshall should never be allowed to happen again. Not only did the Thundering Herd have a great season, they won a conference title in a decent conference and now they don't even have enough players to participate in a bowl game. Sadly, it robbed the players that stayed loyal to the program, the fans that supported them all season long and they also will lose the bowl money as a result.

I don't care what team you root for, this is not acceptable!

I’m not sure how much the NCAA can do to limit some of the portal and NIL stuff without those new limits also getting struck down by courts.

I think you're 100% correct, but at some point, something has to give. For so long, it was the coaches that were leaving for greener pastures, but now with both being allowed to leave, fans are going to lose interest because the best players that were on their team are going to be on another team.

The worst part is this situation is just starting, so who knows what the future will hold!
I know many SEC fans - myself included - sometimes think that since we're the best conference in the country that we're beyond reproach, but the Marshall situation could easily happen to any SEC team, regardless of what team we support.

At some point, the NCAA has to address the serious issues with NIL and the transfer portal because players shouldn't be allowed to just jump ship without some type of repercussion. It's hard to understand how a program like Marshall can go out and have an outstanding season, win the Sun Belt Conference and can't play in a bowl game because almost the entire roster decided to leave and follow their coach.

I don't know the answer, and yes, I agree that the NCAA is powerless, but at some point, something has to be done. It's Marshall today, but the reality is, it could happen to any team in the country next year.

This is not what college football is supposed to look like.

I'm sure he has a huge injury policy with Lloyd's of London should he get injured, but personally, I wouldn't play in a totally meaningless game because it could possibly derail all of his NFL dreams. Yes, he would get paid by Lloyd's of London, but his dreams of becoming an NFL star would be gone if he suffered a major knee injury.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of college football today. If you're not ready, then they will use the portal to find someone that is and hopefully one day your chance will come - if you stick around!

So the idea is we can go plop in the portal and guarantee an upgrade at replacing our veteran QB, but we have no possibility of doing the same in the portal at offensive line in the portal and with player development?

You're missing the point! I love Nuss, but his inability to run the ball is a huge problem. Having a veteran QB that can't run, but can pass really well would be great, if LSU had a great OL, a great running game and a veteran receiver group returning, but we have none of that. Besides Nuss, we have a stud RB in Durham that will be running behind a completely new OL and a great receiver in Anderson, but that's it.

Listen, I love Nuss, but the facts are the facts. I would love to have a versatile QB that was a decent passer, but a very good runner. Having a QB that can only pass, plays right into the hands of the opposing defense and we all saw how that played out this year!

It's hard not to love Nuss because he bleeds purple and gold, but I'm not sure he made the best decision for himself and for LSU.

Clearly, Nuss has talent but he also has his limitations. As a player, I question him returning simply because he ran for his life many times and that was with a veteran OL - including two talented tackles that are projected to go very high in the draft. Next year, he will basically have a totally new and inexperienced OL in front of him, along with a new set of WRs - with the exception of Anderson - and that's not a recipe when your QB is strictly a drop back passer and your run game is almost non-existent.

As for LSU, I'm still perplexed as to how it got itself in this predicament at the QB position and didn't have another QB ready to step in, especially when you have the transfer portal available. Personally, I thought Nuss should go pro because we need a running QB that opposing defenses will have to respect and it can't just send the house because we have a QB that can't run.

I truly hope Nuss goes out and has an absolutely incredible year, but with a new OL, new WR/TE group and little to no run game, that's a lot of huge hurdles to overcome.
