For Tennessee fans traveling to OK, eastern OK is not the South. It is the Wild West.

I despise OU and believe Tennessee is on its way to juggernaut status but going into Norman and expecting to rout the Sooners is ridiculous. I hate the OU hoard but respect their team enough to know they’ll prove some folks wrong.

A caution, for anyone making the drive on I40, the traffic is absolutely the worst from Memphis to Little Rock due to a complete backup of tractor trailers. Be careful as some will pull out in front of you.

A huge challenge is just making it to Norman once you’ve crossed the Arkansas border into Oklahoma. Eastern Oklahoma is the Wild West and Bass Reeves (real lawman) and Rooster Cogburn (fictional from True Grit) used to bring back the bevy of outlaws from the territory to Fort Smith for hanging. Well, the outlaws ancestors still live there so do not get off the interstate. If you have a big orange T on your car, take even more care. Make sure you have enough gas to make it from Van Buren all the way to Norman. Don’t stop at Webber’s Falls to fill up. Hell hole par excellence. Also, Okies will pull out in front of you left and right.

Once you get to Norman/OKC you’ll probably get a lot of ribbing because they are so cocky but they won’t hurt you and may indeed be pretty friendly.

Seriously, be careful but have fun!

From my experiences there, Oklahoma reminds me of Georgia except for the Injuns.

If ever there was a road that needed additional lanes, it's this one.

There’s a dry line that divides Oklahoma geographically and culturally, basically Tulsa and OKC look completely different.

Tulsa side is more like Arkansas/Southeast…while OKC feels like Omaha.

This clown with his nonsense again about vandals roaming the highways and beating people up from out of state.

One thing you left out , if you feel like somebody is watching
wherever you go in Norman , that would be Barry Switzer.
At 86 , Switzer is still everywhere , owning a number of small businesses,
a street & athletic complex named after him and referred to as "The King",

The UGA grad in me wants to see UT get smacked, but I'm also an OSU grad...

For you UT folks, make sure to try Braum's. It's an OK delicacy.

Arkansas devotes a ton of money (Federal and State) to just trying to keep that vaguely repaired. Unless the recent infrastructure bill dropped billions into it that isn't going to change until we are dead and in the ground I fear.

The Arkansas Mississippi Delta counties are deep south and quite different from the rest of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Lol, Tulsa is not southern in the slightest. Tulsa is like St. Louis. It's fine, I've lived there. Not as good of a city as OKC, though. Which eats Tulsans up constantly.

I've always found it strange how much Arkansas seems to hate on Oklahoma when we don't think about them at all. Arkansas has prettier terrain, and that is literally the only thing it has better than Oklahoma (which is sad because we don't exactly have a ton).

Used to travel to Tulsa all the time for a site we had in Sapulpa. It definitely seemed very similar to Southeastern culture for most of the people I interacted with . They were awesome. It was my favorite site to visit.

Could you imagine the ten-year clusterfrick that would be to add lanes to that stretch? It would qualify for a new ring of hell.

It isn't but it does have a lot of southern influence.

Oklahoma isn't the south or midwest or southwest.

Were kind of like the mixing point of all those different cultures mixed with some native.
