Feeling better this morning

I was pretty despondent watching that first half last night, but I think we’ve got some things to grown on.
Hank is the guy. No going back. But because he signifies a full-on youth movement, we’re going to take our lumps this year. 6-6 if we’re lucky. THAT’s okay if we keep recruiting well.
Durkin is going to have a LOT of good teaching tape and I feel like they’ll get the back end figured out. Talent is there, they were just way out of position often last night.
I’m not a fan of the 3-man front. Can’t see that working long term. Kendrick is a one-man wrecking crew. He downs need to be dropping to to coverage. We’re gonna need him to eat Taylen Green’s lunch on Saturday.
Hoping Rivaldo finally caught some fire last night. We’re gonna need him. Especially as we get into SEC to give Hank a release valve.
Mausi was a huge pick up in the portal. He is one of the few who played well on the defensive side of the ball last night. Hope he stays healthy. Right now you could make an argument that he’s our best LB.

While I wish the defense would come out the gate looking good, it has consistently stepped up from the 1st half to the 2nd half. I do wish we found better ways to pressure the QB, rushing 3 ain't it because we're not good enough to cover for 10s+.
Hank had some misses, but he stepped up in the pocket and was willing to get the ball out quickly which was a real pleasure to see.
Running game seemed to figure its self out too, but we've gotta hold onto the ball better.
WRs still look pretty reliable, KLS #5 looks like a stellar pick up. He threw one hell of a block on a play last night along while being a really reliable option.
Special teams remain special. They're either amazing (kick returns, FGs) or terrifying (punt returns). Would love to see us solve the muff issue that's plagued is across multiple players for the last half decade or so.

It was New Mexico and they have one of the worst defenses in FBS. Hank looked good but I want to see him get hit and have to make quick decisions before I tab him the guy. He starts vs Arkansas and has a long leash but I'm a win today kind of guy so if he struggles.....
The 3 man rush is going to cost me a TV. Every once in a while to give a qb a different look is fine but I think we let QBs get wayyy too comfortable and get into a groove by using it so much early in games
Our secondary scares me. This is the 3rd game and I'd hoped to see some improvement we busted coverages and lost way too many 1 on 1s

He got hit multiple times last night.

Oh, he's the guy. No doubt about that. Thorne can't make decisions and he's a fifth year senior. He isn't going to get better. Brown at least can make a decision with the ball and that's at least a start. There's nothing else behind him, now.
Arkansas and particularly OU are going to tell the tale on this season... and by that, I mean a thin ground between a 6-7 win type of season or a disaster. We should be better than we are right now, but win 7 games and the recruiting pitch remains solid. That has to be the goal.

I think he and Woodyard should be the starting MLBers going forward. Woodyard lacks the top end speed of Asante probably, but he wraps up and gets runners on the ground. Mausi and Woodyard both don't seem to get out of position as much either. Both have looked good in pass coverage when they've had to drop back.
And for the love of God can we teach these dudes to stop diving at feet when chasing a QB out of the pocket!

Not sure about this. It was a pretty equal mix of out of position and unable to make plays. We can't keep starting off like we have on defense the last two weeks. We don't have the offense to comeback.

Don't disagree but also don't see recruiting continuing to go the way it has if we go 6-6.

I'm not a fan of anything our defense has done.

I've been done with Scott at PR. Surely Malcolm Simmons has caught punts at some point in his career. Maybe one of the upperclassmen WR that transferred in can get a shot.
Or hell, put two guys back there and just fair catch the rest of the year. One guy responsible for each half of the field. Either let it go or fair catch it. We can't keep giving the other teams free possessions.

Can’t read anything from this game. New Mexico’s defense is terrible. Arky will tell us a lot more and whether there is any hope this season.

Yeah. It's Gus with worse coaching and better recruiting until proven otherwise. We had a dozen of these games under Gus where the offense looked competent against terrible competition just to get absolutely smoked in conference.

Not only was Simmons a receiver in high school but he also returned kickoffs, and punts, and is a great punter. He is a serious threat to go all the way on every single return. He was underrated as a recruit.
I have no problem with him returning punts because he is tough, fearless, has great hands, and makes things happen. The problem is he needs more touches in the offense.

I felt the same way about Jeremy Johnson. You never know until they face adversity. I hope you're right though because I've seen enough of Thorne and Holden trying to pick up a few yards with his legs on a hail mary gives me serious Ashford vibes

Totally agree. But if he isn't going to get his touches on offense for whatever reason, let him return punts. He looks like a guy that can really be dangerous with the ball in his hands. So returning punts is just another way to get the ball in his hands and more chances to put points on the board.

Speed is going to ramp up, JJ looked good once, there's now tape.
What the hell I'm in.

I saw a lot of missed tackles by him. I am rewatching the game and seeing the same thing today.

I am hoping our D is just young talented guys learning on the fly and we get better each week.

It was nice seeing an Auburn QB going through his progressions, looking off DBs, and delivering the ball quickly AND on target.
I didn't think we were allowed to do that.

I dont think I feel any better. I feel like the read I had yesterday is how I feel today. We are going to have a tough go at it this year.
Yea, Hank made some nice throws and a few expected mistakes but that was a shite defense we played yesterday and we did not just dominate them. It is going to get much harder from here. Throne looked amazing against shite competition. It was once he got chases that he fell apart. WE dont know what Hank will do when he is pressured
And that defense did not get better over night

Getting a love tap here or there is different than living under fire. That part is coming.

I disagree. We punted once. We had over 500 yards of O. Our D just couldn't get off the field.
ETA we lost a fumble deep in their territory another time.
