So we are talking about renovating existing facilities again. I know the writing has been on the wall with NIL that building a new facility is not top priority.

I trust Byrne and I guess he worked everything out with Oats on his timetable , but dang, this stings to read this

I'd read that and I hate it. To me, it screams, "we're broke".

Unfortunately we missed the window on building a facility. Nobody is going to build fancy new things with the new setup of college sports. Tons of schools have publicly announced postponement or cancellation of large projects in the last few weeks after the court ruling.

It just won't be a thing anymore.

I think at this point we should just go ahead and lean into it. Just call it the Hanger and make it as intimidating as possible. The Fieldhouse at Kansas isn't pretty either but it's very difficult to win there.

Everyone is broke then. With the house ruling and cost of materials and interest rates, schools all over the country are scrapping major athletic facilities improvements.

If they put students on the floor then a whole lot of the Coleman complaints would subside.

Yep. Since the big donors aren't bankrolling a new arena, they should just take their asses up a few rows and let the kids scream obscenities and other unthinkable horrors at the opponent.

Now you're starting to get it. If we want a new arena, Bama will have to change its approach in order to compensate for this new economic reality.

Putting the students on the floor and telling everyone to move up during the first media timeout would go a long way toward improving the atmosphere. That family of four who bought tickets to watch us play Alaska A&M in late December shouldn't be sitting in row 40 when half the courtside seats are empty.

New facilities will eventually be built, despite NIL. It just won't be soon. The cost of borrowed capital is currently prohibitive.

As long as Nate Oats is in that building , we will be fine. Would love to have a new one though

We will get a new one.

I'm so glad Greg Byrne is the AD!

The ninja has a plan for everything and the cost for the new arena will come down.

Oats will be long gone before we build anything and then nobody would care for another 10 years by then Coleman should collapse into itself.
LA Lakers are trying to go after Hurley from UConn. Oats keeps winning he’ll be next to go.

The reality is we're not getting a new arena for a long time, even the new facility won't be ready until 2026.

Move the students down, it is imperative to get our loudest portion of the fanbase out of the rows that have the same view as Bear. Get them surrounding the court. Look at the game they were allowed to do this one time last year compared to a crowd like the South Carolina game. Big difference. This should be the first move.

Move the media. Not only do they take up so much valuable real estate but it's also an eye sour on television. Move the people who are affected by changing the student section to that area, and move the media somewhere else.

Time to modernize. New scoreboards. Bigger video screens. Redo the interior design. Get some new banners up. Essentially liven the place up a bit, sometimes it has nearly the same energy as a morgue on a weeknight OOC game.

Do this and a new arena wouldn't be the most pressing need.

I can't imagine the needed renovation (aka a complete gutting) would be cheaper than just building a new one, even if it's in the same spot.

We're pretty limited as far as what can be done given Coleman's shape but I do like what Virginia Tech has planned

I have no idea where this came from or when (found through similar images from VT), but this is pretty much exactly how I'd imagine the optimal Coleman renovation. I would raise the lower section to make a complete bowl though, then add a level for boxes

Fix the seating, move the student section, and I'm happy.
