Hopefully their games won't be as long with so many commercial breaks.

I'll miss that music on a cooler fall sunny day with the doors open and LSU playing...

The commercials will continue until profitability improves

When the music plays you know exactly what time it is.

ESPN/ABC agreed to pay a HUGE amount of money to the SEC for the exclusive broadcast rights. They are going to make sure they maximize their revenue...which means commercial breaks aren't being reduced. In fact, the NCAA just adopted the 2:00 warning this years which was implemented almost SOLELY to provide for an additional two commercial breaks

quote:

The origins are from the early years in the National Football League (NFL) when the official game time was kept by a member of the officiating crew, with the stadium clock being unofficial. Its purpose was a checkpoint to ensure that the teams knew how much time remained in the game. In the early 1960s the upstart American Football League (AFL) made the stadium clock the official game time, a change followed later in the decade by the NFL, shortly before its merger with the AFL. By then, television was an important factor in professional football, so the two-minute warning was retained as a commercial break and to serve as "tension building" time, and thus has become an important part of the game's flow.

I always felt the production value of the CBS broadcast was much better. The visuals seemed clearer and the game was produced in a more "theatric" manner to heighten the drama

I've always loved the Saturday night ABC games with Herbstreit and Fowler. I didn't know that that was an unpopular opinion.

I hate Disney/ESPN but they are going to respect the Tiger Stadium nighttime tradition. We’ve had so many massive games in that 2:30 slot that will now be ABC primetime which is going to be awesome.

This may not be popular but I lost my love for SEC football on CBS when Verne Lundquist retired. With all of this NIL-transfer portal stuff, I have lost my love for all college football. On the flip side, my yard looks better than ever.

The irony is CBS declined the SEC offer because it was too expensive…then changed its mind and paid even more for the B10’s second tier rights.

Genuine question, what exactly about NIL & the transfer portal makes college football so much worse for you?

I agree with him. Probably making the players even more of temporary mercenaries than they already were.

Players hopping around every year or two. I can barely keep up with the rosters now.

It seems SEC has made a deliberate decision in favor or TV commercial time in order to maximize the revenues they can exact for TV contracts. This lengthens the game, of course, and makes in-stadium viewing viewing less pleasant b/c of the incessant interruptions in play . This leads to lower attendance at games and more people leaving early. The conferences are knowingly accepting this trade off for $. The in stadium experience will continue to decline.

The picture quality of the CBS broadcast is light years ahead of Disney, but at least we won't have to listen to GD slobber over Kirby Smart's schlong

Very few people will care to watch the CBS doubleheader of Wisconsin vs Illinois and Penn State vs. Michigan.

The south is special with football. You can feel the hatred even when Ole Miss plays a team like Auburn on any given Saturday in the fall. It means more here

GD is going to hate covering the B1G. Absolutely hate it. I will forever associate his voice with losing to Saban so it comes at a good time.
