Random thought. I can’t remember ever seeing Arkansas play Arkansas state, Little Rock, central Arkansas or pine bluff in anything. Why is that?

Arkansas vs Arkansas State football would be good

With the exception of Auburn, Bama doesn’t play in-state teams. Who would want to watch Bama vs Troy, or Auburn - Montgomery branch, or Jacksonville St?

Same people who would watch when you play Western Kentucky, Mercer, UTC, ULM, USU, etc

Evidently you haven't looked at next year's first game.

And an incorrect thought. Maybe search some recent schedules for all sports for Arkansas and it’s got Arkansas state schools amongst the teams played. Then start/not start a thread.

The fact that Arkansas and Arkansas State have NEVER met in football is probably what drives that incorrect narrative.

It is well past time for those two schools to play a football game.

UAB is part of the University of Alabama system and they don't get scheduled in football or basketball. I wished that would change but who am I? Watching the barn's near-death experience with Jacksonville State a few years ago makes me think, why bother? It just means more to the instate little guys.

Carolina made a commitment to play instate schools. If we were going to play buy games, we wanted that money to stay in state. I don't see why yall dont do the same. In our case when we play SC State it works out well for everyone because their band does a killer halftime show.

Either way, its weird to not keep that buy game money in state

Agreed. The reasoning I always heard was around in-state recruiting. It would only hurt Arkansas and help Arkansas State. In the NIL world, that's no longer very relevant.

Losing to teams like Toledo on a regular basis hurts in state recruiting less

I think the game would generate a lot of interest since they haven't ever played.

Back when ASU was at a lower level I can't blame UA for not giving them a game. Especially, when UA was giving Tulsa and Oklahoma State a game every year. But I think it would give football interest in the state of Arkansas a much needed "shot in the arm" so to speak if they developed an in state rivalry game.

As an OU fan I am really interested to see how NOT having an in state rivarly game will change the dynamics in Oklahoma for all the fans.

There’s like 3 options and even with how shitty we are we’d still whoop em.

Frank Broyles speaking in front of leg looking to do just that, called it ‘Socialism’ to force them to play.

ASU/Hogs in LR 1st game will be an immediate sell out.
Razorbacks will also play Arkansas State for the first time ever at War Memorial Stadium on Sept. 7 in Little Rock. The final non-conference game of the 2025 schedule will feature a road matchup against Memphis on Sept. 20 …

Because they lose to teams of that caliber often... would make their already awful recruiting situation worse.

for a number of years now LSU has played an in-state opponnent on a rotoating basis annually. This year it is Nicholls State, last season Grambling St., etc. I applaud them for this effort.

If your powerhouse SEC state school is going to play "sisters of the poor" every year - might as well keep that money in state and help out your neighbors

I'm glad LSU plays in-state schools in baseball, MBB, and WBB. Note that 6 Louisiana teams made the NCAA Baseball Tournament that starts Friday. ULL, La Tech, Tulane, Nicholls, Grambling, and LSU.
