5 13-17 SEC teams left

Assuming Alabama holds on against Auburn. That will make 5 SEC teams finishing with a 13-17 SEC record.
Committee is going to have a really tough decision ahead on these teams. SEC really cannibalized itself this season after the top 6 teams. Typically 13-17 SEC teams have like a 30-40% chance of making the tournament. Seems more like at least 3 of these 5 teams will probably make it in.

A record 10 SEC teams made it last year.
Is the conference more dominant this year?
How about a record 11 teams?

Eventually the power 5 needs to have their own baseball tourney
Not an easy out against any sec teams

South Carolina- decent overall record with some good wins; currently cratering right now.
LSU- solid overall record, a couple decent wins OOC (Texas and ULL, both ranked), defending national champ; lost series to Vandy, Fla, and Alabama (can't look good if you're trying to pick the best of the bunch).
Florida- great SOS and RPI, made the CWS Finals last year; barely over .500.
Vandy- good overall record, took the series vs LSU and Fla; swept by South Carolina and has lost the last 4 series.
Alabama- ok overall record, took the series vs LSU and South Carolina, also took series from Arkansas and Tennessee.
I might put Florida last, then LSU, then South Carolina, Vandy, Bama (last to best).

Mark Kingston does not deserve a NCAAT bid - he's earned a long overdue pink slip - to hell with his 13-17 SEC record in 2024 -

South Carolina baseball has lost 20+ regular season games for the sixth time in seven full seasons. It only happened twice the previous 17 seasons.
Also under .500 in conference play for the fifth time in nine seasons, which only happened four times the previous 31 seasons.

First time since 1996 we’ve lost our last 6 games to end the season
Nothing against Georgia and Tennessee, great teams. But this is inexcusable

LSU really screwed themselves this season-
absolutely blew the series at Alabama (throwing error on the final play literally cost them game 1).
Should have won game 2 vs both Florida and Vandy, had the lead in the 8th.
That's 3 wins they gave away, then figure in losses to Missouri and Auburn, when you were playing weaker teams to save the season- should have taken at least one of those.
Get those 4 wins, and LSU would be 17-13, 7 series wins instead of 4, and 40-16 overall. You go from sweating about a bid, to probably hosting a regional- maybe even as the 8 seed (last national seed to get a super regional no matter what).

Coach Raines was outstanding but in the twilight on his highly successful career when we entered the SEC -
we all know who's responsible for this - and it ain't even Mark Kingston's fault - I actually like the guy - I don't GAF if his child is enrolled at Clem U - he's just in a job that he should have never been offered -

This could make for some very interesting Tuesday games in Hoover. Do Bama, USC, Vandy and Florida roll out their aces? With teams bunched that close and right at that seemingly magic number of conference wins, you have to treat these games as must win.

Does the Vandy/Florida loser eliminate themselves?

So the 13-17 team that has the worst record in sec tourney sits out??

Florida…absolutely.
Vandy is currently projected as the 3 seed in Winston-Salem and are not among the last four in. But they certainly can’t feel safely in if they lose this one.

And those 5 teams could all potentially pull off a run in the Tourney. There is insane depth in SEC baseball.

Does series records carry any weight?
LSU is 4-6 in their 10 series, I’d be curious what the other 4 teams did.

Let hoover separate these teams on the bubble

Tuesday is a "must" win for every 13-17 team to either get a bid or to feel better about their position.

Alabama and South Carolina are in based on RPI.. Others do have some work to do to feel comfortable. The problem is if you win in the first round you are in double elimination and guaranteed two loses instead of just one unless you win the whole thing.
Current RPI of 13-17 teams.
Alabama - 18
South Carolina - 19
Florida - 24
Vanderbilt - 27
LSU - 30
If LSU doesn’t win at least two games, they will take a step back. If that happens and they make it, it will almost certainly be because their fans travel so well.

Eh there are several other factors helping LSU that you left out. They are the hottest of the bunch winning 4/5 series to end the year (absolutely matters) and they have the best overall record of the group. Beating 2 out of conference ranked teams away from home also helps. I’m not saying LSU gets in but you definitely left out some important context

They have to watch other conference tournaments for bid stealers too. SEC bubble teams have strong arguments but it's all for naught when dealing with an automatic qualifier.
East Carolina, UCONN, UCSB and UC Irvine, Northeastern, Dallas Baptist, Indiana St, San Diego plus the other locks are all teams that could make the bubble smaller if they lose their conference tournament.
