"We're not going to overpay for players!"

Four months ago BK made Blake Baker the highest paid asst. coach in the nation at $2.5 million/year. Baker's 2023 defense was ranked in the 30s nationally. Included in that was the surrendering of 49 points to LSU, which BK had a front-row seat to.

Most people would say that you were desperate and OVERPAID to get a DC. So, from my vantage point, it appears BK has a double standard when it comes to how players are treated, compared to coaches.

BK Translation:

"My coaching staff can make millions, but the most ill give any player is a cringe 360 video of us dancing together"

is LSU broke or something?

Paying for a coach is not the same as pre-paying for players (a decent but nothing special one in Damonic Williams case) to come into a program and cause culture issues because the questions start getting asked by the players why does this guy get $1.5M and I got promised nothing. Especially if he ended up a rotational guy at best, then the culture around the program can really get shaky.

What you said is entirely irrelevant to promising players large amounts of money before they ever step foot on campus.

I am stealing this post from CottonWasKing on the Tiger Rant because it explains the dynamics of BK's opinion. Its not that we won't pay players, we won't pay them more than they are worth because of the precedent it might set:

Ok so let’s say we pay Damonic Williams 1.5 for average defensive line play for one season.

That’s more than either of our Offensive Coordinators make btw but let’s say we do it.

We can afford an extra 1.5 this year no problem.

But what happens next year? Williams is gone but Whit Weeks is still here. All of those freshman DBs are still here. Nuss is still here. That whole incoming 2025 recruiting class is here.

Do you honestly think they won’t be in BK’s office saying “well you paid him that and I’m better than him so where’s my money?”

What do you do when half your starters walk into the portal because you can’t afford to pay them what you paid a very average defensive tackle?

Be careful of the precedents you set.

From my perspective... Win something... until then, go sit on some rocks.

Mizzou trying to force a rivalry after their best team in the last decade got beat at home with a game sealing pic 6 by the worst defense in lsu history THEN got their coaches stolen.

Tough times for those fake tigers over there

Wow. What the hell is Missouri's infatuation with LSU? You guys are covering LSU more than LSU fans.

Everyone knows this is what your post is really about.

Get over it already! We'll take what we want from your program when we want. :

I know, players are treated so harshly at SEC schools. It’s amazing they even make it through their day without giving up.

Every team is going to overpay a player. LSU, Mizzou, Bama, OU, and every team in the SEC is overpaying for players. If they miss on DT, but still need to fill that position they are going to over pay the next available DT. The next available DT might be making more than the 5 DT’s rated higher than him.

Team’s will need to overpay to fill a hole in their roster and there’s nothing wrong with that. BK is kinda right, but he is also a little wrong.
