Im still wondering how Mickey 17 got 78% on RT when everybody ive talked to hated it. It must have been based off of reputation alone.
Overrated:

BJ Penn- i get it, he was a savage at lightweight back in the day. But even at his peak he lost 3/4 from 05-06. He was still only 31 when he lost the belt to Edgar and started what is maybe the biggest fall off in UFC history. I get he was great in the early 2000s but the losses and the fall off are to big to ignore.

Magomed Ankalaev-fought a bunch of nobodies to stack his record. Fought a washed Jan to a draw. Considered a GOAT after he beat a hurt and sick Pereira. Knew he was going to get wrecked in the rematch and he did.

Uriah Faber-The GOAT of losing title matches. 7 to be exact.

Underrated:

Carlos Condit-WEC champ, started knocking out people in UFC when they absorbed WEC including Rory Mcdonald. Beat a prime Nick Diaz when he ran through strikeforce to the tune of 11 wins in a row which put a serious damper on his fight with GSP whom he came back to the UFC to beat. Had a solid showing against a prime GSP in the title match. And in my opinion he beat Lawler in their title fight but didnt get the decision. That fight was a war and he fell off after that. Used to love the natural born killer

Alexander Volkovski-i get he's the champ and one of the pound for pound greatest, but i still dont think he gets enough flowers. Dude has absolutely RAN the ufc featherweight division for almost 10 years now, and is still dominating contenders at 37 years old. He also, arguably beat the current lb for lb best fiighter on the planet Islam in their 1st fight. Super impressive what hes still doing at his age.

Junior Dos Santos-Guy is never mentioned when heavyweight GOATs are brought up. He's beaten Cain Velasquez, Derrick Lewis, Shane Carwin, Stipe Miocic, Mark Hunt, Frank Mir, Ben Rothwell, Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel Gonzaga, Roy Nelson, and Cro Cop all in their prime. That's an insane lineup

Is the Darren Arnovsky one a remake of this or are they not related?
Started with Memories of Murder

I've heard alot about this movie and really wanted to try to catch it after it showed up in NYT "100 best movies of the 2000s" list at #99. Finally got around to it last week.

It lived up to the hype. Felt like a Korean Zodiac, as it is based on a true story of Korea's first serial killer in the late 80s/early 90s. The atmosphere of a late 80s rural Korea was great. It added a darkness to the film along with Korea being under a bad regime at the time. However, the biggest thing that surprised me was how funny it was. BJH seems to teeter on the edge of dark comedy/thriller with alot of his films to where its almost off putting but it works here. I was cracking up at the bath house scene. The ending is where it really shines. I didnt "get it" at first but once i looked into it and realized what he was doing i thought it was great.

Next up was a board favorite: The Host

I'll preface this by saying im not a monster movie guy. Godzilla and King Kong do nothing for me. So, i didnt think this was the absolute masterpiece its often made out to be, but i did really enjoy it and can see why fans of the genre love it so much. I like how you're hit in the face with the monster right off the jump as it attacks in broad daylight right at the beginning. It was a nice change of pace from waiting till the movie is halfway over to reveal the monster. After doing some digging it looks like when it came out it did get some criticism for being "anti-american" as it does depict America being the bad guys that caused the monster and BJH even admits in an interview that the part about there not really being a virus was a shot at there being no WMD's in the middle east. Also the use of agent yellow symbolizing our use of agent orange. This dosen't really bother me but thought it was relevant.

I've already seen Parasite, Snowpiercer, and Mickey 17

-Parasite is probably his peak along with Memories of Murder. I though it was solid when i saw it in theatre back in 2019 but havent seen it since. I do remember thinking it was a TAD overrated though.

-I fricking love Snowpiercer. I havent seen it since it came out on netflix about 10 years ago but i thought the concept was super cool. Due for a rewatch.

-Mickey 17 is definitely his biggest flop. He leaned way to much into the comedy/goofiness in this one, and Ruffalo's performance was laughably bad. Huge dissapointment.

Still have to watch Barking Dogs Dont Bite, Mother!, and Okja. Thoughts on these or BJH in general?
Wife and I went and saw it in imax last night. What a great experience. She was dreading going because 1. We weren’t going to get out till 930 on a work night, and 2. She just hates going to the theatre in general. I told her I promise it’s going to be a special experience. She was blown away afterwards and cried all throughout when things were looking bad for Rocky .

I actually really liked how the author chose to depict Grace as a common guy who absolutely did not want to go and did not want to rise to the occasion. 99% of the time in books and movies it shows the protagonist agreeing to step up to the occasion, sometimes being indifferent, but ultimately deciding to do it for the greater good. I think most of us assume we would react that way, but in reality many of us would would be like Grace and be like frick that I’m not going up there I’ll just die in 30 years. I thought that was a painfully realistic scene and it was hard to watch when they forced him.

Also, I’m sure it’s been mentioned before but the scene when he enters the Petrova line was fricking amazing with all the pink
Next weeks Apex card looks all time bad

Just a warm up before the Miami banger though :dude:
Izzy looked good his last fight against Imavov until he got caught. Wondering how much he has left in the tank. This would be his 4th loss in a row and hes 36.
It changes a lot but my most consistent over the years probably:

1. Creed-What If
2. Mudvayne-Happy?
3. Korn-Freak on a Leash

I’ve gotten to where I only listen to “pump up” music on leg days though. It’s mostly guilty pleasure songs like Gin Blossoms or Joe Rogan

It’s really just Hunter S Thompson fans that love it, and it’s a wild true story of the shite he was actually doing while working. I loved it as a teen because I thought any movie about drugs was cool, but I can see now it’s more of a cult classic and not for everybody

Rented this on Prime yesterday and enjoyed it. Skarsgard is always solid. The true story is way before my time so I looked it up. Crazy stuff. Glad ole baw got off with the old insanity trick

I didn’t catch LOST live as I was in middle school/high school at the time and wasn’t watching much tv. But, we did binge the shite out of it in college as it was one of the first series streamed by Netflix. Lots of bong bowls and classes skipped because of that show

The Drop
The Revenant
Inception
Locke(I think this is his best performance)
Warrior
Lawless
Mad Max: Fury Road
Legend
The Dark Knight Rises
The Bikeriders

Those are his best in order IMHO
Despite the bad ending, IMO, it’s still up there with the best shows of all time. It’s 1A for me with 1B being the sopranos and Breaking Bad being a close 2nd.

I think too many people let the ending detract from the greatness of the previous seasons. The show had the world in an absolute choke hold and is the only show I can remember where everyone, everywhere shut down whatever they were doing at 8pm on Sunday nights because it was literal must see tv and you didn’t want to miss it live. I get that the bad ending HAS to count against it and it absolutely should, but it dosent keep it from being one of the GOATS for me personally.

Enjoy the ride. And don’t get to attached to characters, they’re probably going to die.

Really? Who thought that?

I’ve seen it mentioned a lot on this board when that season is brought up. Florida was a machine by time the tourney rolled around. Won the sec tournament and blew through the bracket with double digit wins over everybody they faced except Georgetown in the sweet 16
The Duke game is the most talked about game because Duke and JJ Reddick were the media darlings and the heavy favorite to win the tournament. They were legit (they beat Texas by 30 in the regular season) and nobody gave us a shot and if fans are being honest most of us didn’t expect to win either. It took a miracle 3 to beat 12 seeded Texas A&M. But, after we beat Duke we really thought we could win it all.

Texas was probably the better game of the 2. There was a wild loose ball sequence towards the end of regulation that ended in another clutch Mitchell 3. Then we dominated OT. I remember thinking there was no way we wouldn’t win it all after that. Then ucla happened. I know a ton of fans think we would have beaten Florida in the championship but I’m not so sure. They were a legit champion and beat us twice that year already and neither were really close.

Video games are subjective and it’s fine to have different opinions and people like what they like. But to say “KCD2 wipes the floor with E33 and it isn’t even close” is so fricking pretentious .

I haven’t played KCD2, and I don’t doubt it’s a great game in its own right. But how many Medievil based rpgs have been made over the years? About 1000. How many dark fantasy French Baroque rpgs? 1. Exp33 was able to rejuvenate the turn based genre for old school JRPGs like myself, while making it interactive and fresh for new age gamers at the same time. A feat that NONE of the big boys have been able to accomplish in the 20 years they’ve been trying.

And they did all this while simultaneously making an INCREDIBLE story, which for me is my biggest selling point. And an equally incredible score. Sure, it’s going to have copycats like souls (I’m not a souls fan either btw, and loathe the “soulslike” title) but I believe in 10-20 years we’ll look back and be able to say that exp33 was the game that brought back the turn based genre from the dead and made games enjoyable again for old school JRPGs players like myself. A lot will be duds, but if we get a handful of good ones that’s fine.

It’s ok to not like the combat, not everybody liked it. But for me, it brought back the strategy element that turn based is predicated on, while also scratching that “satisfying” itch of timing something perfectly when parrying that I didn’t know I even wanted or needed.

It’s a generational game and it proved it at the gaming awards. I get that awards don’t mean everything, I’m pretty pretentious when it comes to films and I don’t think the Oscar’s mean much. But it’s hard to deny this wasn’t a generational game with the impact it had on the gaming world in 2025. Again, it’s fine if you didn’t like it, but saying it’s a bad game and KCD2 “wipes the floor with it” is just an objectively bad take.
16 years old. Watched at home with my dad. When Tyrus had the game sealing dunk then stuffed Paulus on the other end and started going nuts at mid court was an all time lsu moment. What a game. Cousin was a big JJ fan and a bandwagon Duke fan and he thought there was no way we could win that game.

What made that team so special was they were all home grown Louisiana boys that had been playing together since AAU and they almost went the distance.
He also said “keep your eye on lsu bball, that’s all I’m going to say right now. The silence is deafening”

I want to believe.
