This isn’t a troll at all….I get Saban is your GOAT and all but being honest, do you really think he timed this right for the overall good of the program?
Yes. Coach D will be different from Coach S. So what? I remember Bama whipping Jordan, Dye, Tuberville, and that little Midget, can’t remember his name.
As long as we beat the Barn, I’m good with 1-11

Good effort the coach I signed on to compete for quit 36 hours before I left for school freshman year. I found out because my aunt saw it in the usa today sports page, in the transactions section nobody reads. This isn't even close to doing it at the worst time. I was on head coach #3 less than a year from signing my LOI

You asked a good question AUWDE, teh gOaT screwed them over for sure his timing absolutely nuked their options in the portal they should be mad, maybe they are but refuse to say the quiet part out loud, which is simply a melt of another flavor.

He’s mad because we’re not mad at Saban. He thought he had a good burn and he didn’t get the reaction he wanted.

Are you nuts or just clueless about college football? There is never a good time for a coach to leave but this is about as good a time as it gets. You don’t want to do it before the December signing day. You certainly can’t do it before the playoffs, though few of you can fully appreciate that fact. To do it after spring practice would kill chances for a good season, and what decent coach would be even be willing to quit his team and sign on with another one without even a spring practice?
So are you nuts or just clueless about the game?

He's a troll, and not a very intelligent one.
That's why he does most of it here; it's the promised land for stupid people with an opinion.

This is true. It’s a trash talk board 24/7

Saban has done more than enough to call it quits when he was ready. Not much to argue against when he has 6 rings at Bama plus one from LSU.

Saban should've made a deal with a great DC or OC or head coach to work as his DC or OC to come in for this past season with the understanding he'd retire at the end of the season. I think that would've made a better transition and helped with roster management. While I think DeBoer is a great offensive coach, I feel the move to him was more about him having Sexton as his agent than it should've been.

Nope. He earned the right to do whatever the frick he wanted to do as it relates to how he left.

I really think that Napier was the guy to take over for Saban and he screwed the pooch at Florida. The timing would have been right. And Florida would have gotten Jedd Fisch.

There could certainly have been a better time, but there's never actually a good time for a program to lose the best to ever do it.
Honestly, though, the guy has earned the right to do whatever he feels like he needs to do.

I don’t blame Saban. Hell that man didn’t know till about 5 min before he walked in to talk to the team. He was still interviewing DC candidates. No I don’t blame Saban at all. The man busted his arse to put Alabama on top. He had earned the right to go out whenever he wanted too.
I blame the NCAA for allowing a system to be created that has no checks and balances on it and rewards people willing to write big checks rather than rewarding coaches that are willing to work and grind to build a program the good old fashioned way. I’m convinced Saban wanted to coach a few more years. The problem was Saban just burned out. He could not keep up with all the NIL & portal shite plus carry out all the other responsibilities a head coach has on his plate. When it’s at a place like Alabama I’m sure it’s even worse because Bama is so high profile. It’s just sad though that the greatest college coach of all time and a guy that built his reputation by working hard and taking no shortcuts was run out of the business because of a system that encourages taking shortcuts. The system we have also sends a message to players at an impressionable age in life that it’s ok to quit on that player’s current team and go somewhere else if things get a little bumpy and a player doesn’t get his way. It’s also allowing players to make dumb moves that may benefit them in the short term but it may hurt them in the long term just for a few bucks or a car.

You are assuming Saban knew he was retiring before the season began.
By his own admission, he was torn between staying or retiring five minutes before the final team meeting.

Oh for fricks sake some of you have absolutely NO reading comprehension but I guess I should have expected that.
You have been melting like fricking popsicles on here about the players portaling out and how unfair it is cause now, the portal is closed for other teams so Bama’s options to get players from the portal are limited.
Would you have rather him done it a bit earlier to eliminate this dynamic or waited maybe a week or two so that it would limit these player’s options on where they could portal due to registration deadlines at other schools?
I should have known by now to not expect any reasonable, rational responses from Bama fans.
When a school loses their coach, the portal automatically opens for 30 days for their players.

When he announced he was done, I believe he had his current roster and the unsigned commits in his mind. He wanted them to think about what might be their best decision to make going forward. If he would have waited they may have felt betrayed. He was and always will look out for their best interest. There was not a great time to do it but there was a bad time to announce it.

I would take him at his word on this.
With the whole world asking him about when, speculating when, recruits asking, etc. there’s little doubt he had thought about it. But as mentioned earlier, he actually interviewed a DC position opening the day before.
When asked in November, his response was, “what would I do?” He always mentioned being a part of a team, insinuating he would be lost without that concept in his life.
It’s done. I appreciate his contribution and his legacy!

Wow,really??? No idea.
Problem is, the portal closed for all the other teams. So your options to replace those players are from teams whose coaches are also leaving….right now Arizona and Washington.
Would you rather have this happening when at least you can portal in better players than that? Or maybe when it’s too late for your players to transfer to other teams due to academic registrations….if Saban waits 2 weeks those players are probably stuck at Bama and that at least gives the new staff time to build a relationship.
Bama fans have the IQs of fricking termites.
