Unless you're a legacy, it'd be silly to stay committed in a future class. They should fully vet who they're committing to play for, and vice-versa.

A commitment means absolutely nothing though. It doesn't prevent him from taking visits or talking to other staffs. He could even stay publicly "committed" up until ESD and sign elsewhere. It happens numerous times every year. What's the point in decommitting before even meeting the new staff? If you don't like them fine, but there's absolutely nothing to lose by giving them a chance before deciding what to do when there's 11 months before you can even sign.

Hard to say this is the staff’s fault but they need to get some dubs in recruiting quick.

Ffrench was already giving off decommitting vibes even before Saban retired. He visited Ohio State a few weeks ago. Long-term commitments don't mean very much these days. Who knows where he ends up when the dust settles in 2025.

This needs to change

Its punitive to only allow the portal to open one way on a team facing a coaching change

Players should be able to enter the portal to talk to teams experiencing a coaching change exclusively

It means nothing slowly transitions into why couldn't he just do something that means nothing. Kid is being open and honest about his situation. None of this prevents this staff from recruiting him and winning him over a 2nd time.

Personally speaking, I got to Alabama because of a late coaching change in my sport, sr year of high school. The real kicker, my bama coach quit a week before school started.

I imagine there’s a lot of negative recruiting going on behind the scenes.
This unfortunately is the new world of nil…one kid seeing another kid suddenly
driving a Lamborghini or Ferrari, and they want one. And it’s gonna get worse. It will probably only change when it starts costing universities too much money.
Don’t blame Saban for bowing out this year.

Can he at least get off the plane first?

Look I get most of you haven’t been through this before. We had success on a level every other program can only dream of. DeBoer almost certainly won’t surpass Nick, because that would take a fisking miracle.

In today’s day and age you, and a lot of the kids we recruit want instant gratification, NIL has only made this worse, so take a deep breath, meet me at Popstokes and once this old man kicks your arse at putt putt you’ll realize the world didn’t end and it’ll be ok.

Need a big win. Getting Ryan Williams back in the fold should be a priority for CKD. Sell him on being his Julio Jones.

How about if your team takes in a player from a program that has a coaching change then your program's portal opens for 30 days?

Bama will take some short-term lumps, but winning and relationships change a lot.

Give CKD a year to build relationships and 1-2 years to prove there is still high-end leadership at the helm and a path to the NFL, and it all gets on track.

Hell, I don't think Saban is there to help him with Xs and Os. I guarantee the sole reason is the warm handover of relationships and advice on recruiting battle rhythms, processes, and pipelines.

Agreed. I'll watch Alabama just because it's my school, but I just can't get invested into the program when there's a new roster almost every year

I thought I read that Ryan and Ffrench are visiting Alabama on the 20th. Am I wrong?

Williams was reportedly liking stuff on Twitter about the DeBoer hire. I can't imagine being a sports journalist on recruiting and part of your job has become stalking these high schoolers on social media, but I was grateful for that report.

I’ve got a better idea. I’d say 95% of coaching changes happen in Dec-Jan. How about the damn portal stay closed until after spring practice so the new staff has at least a fighting chance to keep kids? This unilateral opening is bullshite. Normally a team undergoing a coaching change is underperforming so the NCAA in its infinite wisdom is going to further handicap that team by allowing the players to leave without any repercussions except for the new staff. It’s ludicrous!
