I hate that Saban is leaving but his timing was good. Auburn is in transition themselves and it would’ve done us more harm than good if he had stayed on and allowed Freeze more time to build their roster while using the retirement deal against Saban in recruiting.

@ Diego_Ricardo: cool that you’re one-quarter Dutch. In Dutch, the ‘oe’ in Kalen DeBoer is pronounced like the ‘oo’ in cool.
If indeed DeBoer brings in his OC, OL-coach and WR-coach, this should be a massive upgrade.
-Our O-line improved last year, but was far from elite (sacks, snap-issues). I guess it was still closer to the Doug Marrone (who is OL coach for the NO Saints, I noticed)-days than the Kyle Flood-days. I’d be more than happy to see a fresh face come in after 2 years of Eric Wolford as O-line coach.
-Tommy Rees proved, as the season progressed, that perhaps he wasn’t as bad as he was depicted here in some of the threads on this board after the first few games. But you cannot compare him in ANY way, shape or form to the Kalen DeBoer/Ryan Grubb combo. That’s true elite stuff right there.
-Our wide receivers have just fallen off from the Smith, Waddle, Jeudy and Ruggs days. I don’t know where the blame lies (recruiting and/or development), but I understand that the Washington WR-coach, JaMarcus Shephard, is elite as well.
On defense I hope DeBoer goes all-in on a young guy with Alabama ties like Glenn Schuman. Make him THE man, whereas at Uga he hasn’t been that (with the shadow of Kirby and Musschamp hoovering over him). I’m assuming Schuman’s a great area recruiter as well (knowing how important recruiting is for Smart). He could coach up our ILB’s as well.

By this coming Friday all the players that are thinking of leaving will be gone.
After A-Day all this begins again.
It would be great if Bama got a commit from a really good player this week. Just a little bounce would be good.

Good point on receivers. Our talent and production has fell off a ton since Smitty. I think it’s a combo of coaching and talent. We have to start pulling in some stud receivers.

Grubb is a brilliant offensive mind. Washington had a passing game that rivaled what we’ve had in the past under Saban. The real question is who leads the defense. He has to make the best hire possible.

Hell no. These are things that are happening and they are documented for you.

Official Coaching Staff Discussion Thread by Remiden
From what i have read, he runs a 4-2-5 with one of the 5 being a hybrid safety/linebacker, which i think Malachi Moore will excel at.
I actually like this... How's many times have we put a LB on a wr and got burned... Might stop that.

Hearing some familiar names for DeBoers first staff at Alabama. Would not be surprised if Freddy Roach is retained and DJ Durkin is added as LB coach.

Bond to Texas is now official LINK

Durkin is not a bad coach. As a recruiter I don’t know his track record at Ole Miss and A&M. But at least he has the connections in the footprint we get most of our players from

I love ya Phil, but there are at least 3 better threads for this , mainly the one from 20 minutes ago that says Isiah Bond officially to Texas.

It's the same reality now for every team in college football, Bama's not unique. After spring practice, and evaluations of team needs, Bama will put out feelers for transfers, too. The thirty day window is what Bama has to weather at this point. The NCAA may have to address the 30 day window at some later date (but it won't help us now). With the change to transfers being able to immediately play, the 30 day rule could be nearly as bad as the death penalty to some programs that lack resources.

shite, sorry. I didn’t refresh the page before I posted and didn’t see it. My bad.

Regarding Bond, if that’s his attitude… I don’t want him at UA. He’s talented, absolutely. But he’s no world beater… and he clearly didn’t want to be here. If you won’t even discuss option with the new coach, then get out

There has to be better options than Durkin, just has to be.
