I think it will be Norvell, but I dont have any inside info.
Obviously most other people dont either.
Lane can act like a child with his cell phone, and he burned bridges when he left including Saban. Norvell has completely overtaken Dabo in the acc. Kirby has a great job and the ball rolling at his school. We do not have the money to compete with Texas. FSU has a legal mess to deal with and I think Norvell would leave. And he rebuilt two programs from the garbage dump, won 19 in a row and would have been in the playoff if his QB had not gotten hurt.

At this point, there is really nothing about this that makes me think this will be a good hire. In my mind, there were 3-4 guys that could keep the ball rolling and most of them are already crossed out.

We are less than 24 hours out from the news, I think we all need to take a deep breath. Microwave society, man.

I’d be good with Kiffin, Sark, or DeBoar. Anyone else I have no idea. Those guys will keep up at a high level.

Exactly, I hate when guys get propped up after having one generational QB(for their program not overall). We won’t know if DeBoar is any good until after he coaches without Penix and we already know Norvell sucked once Travis went down.

Kalen DeBoer
104-12 overall
3x NAIA coach of the year
2x Pac12 coach of the year
PAC12 champ
3x NAIA NC

Sioux Falls - NAIA (2005)
11-2
14-0 (NC)
13-1 (runner up)
14-0 (NC)
15-0 (NC)

Fresno St (prev record 4-8, +5 wins)
9-3

UW (prev record 4-8, +7 wins)
11-2 (won Alamo bowl vs Texas)
14-1 (NC runner up, pac12 champ)

The guy just wins, I understand the concern about Penix but truthfully Im not sure Penix is quite as good or consistent as many people think and he’s won without him previously.

Why not Will Stein? OU would hire him.

HOT TAKE: I am in the boat that this hire will meet 60% of our expectations that we had with Saban.

I think that’s our cap for this hire. I don’t expect a national championship for the next 5 years.

The hire after this one will be the biggest hire, IMO.

The job hasnt been open 24 hrs. You expected them to hire someone the same day?

What a hilariously bad take.

Saban told ESPN he made the decision to retire last weekend after getting back from his home in Florida. Told Chris Low that he will be at Alabama helping the transition and will still have a presence at Alabama. Said that health did play a part in his decision although he said he has no major health issues.

Does "helping the transition" include being the head coach for at least a few more years?

I'm not too sold on DeBoar. He may be great, but regardless of what is said on here southern recruiting ties matter. Not to mention, I think with him coming it would be a mass exodus from current players. Sark, I don't think is going anywhere, but I would sure take him. Kiffin is the only viable option in my eyes now.

I would ask that question of folks that have it good. Folks with nothing to lose? Nope. For some reason Bama fans are above hiring assistant coaches.

I don’t think Greg Byrne is operating on the same wavelength as the fans: must have southern ties, must be a proven head coach, must be a proven recruiter, etc.

Nate Oats had zero SEC recruiting experience and it hasn’t mattered at all.

Saban had zero SEC experience before he got to LSU and that didn’t matter at all.

If you can recruit and make people like you it’s fine.

If you’re an assclown who everyone despises and who doesn’t like to recruit in the first place like Harsin it’s a major problem.

Lanning just tweeted this video. He's staying at Oregon.

He was never in Tuscaloosa. He doesn’t know if he’d be seriously considered.

He has to say something to create stability for his program. Otherwise, his players will hit the transfer portal

Didnt matter for Saban or Les Miles at LSU. Didnt matter for Urban Meyer at UF. Didnt keep Brian Kelly from pulling the #1 recruit in country last week.

Sark wasn't even on our radar until he spent a few years in t town... crazy. Had no ties to south before then either.
