Who says his dream job is in college football?
True. That’s one concern I have about the younger ones. Although I do think Kiffin would treat Bama like his destination job, I do have to wonder how seriously he could treat the job in something like year 7 were he to get there.

shite. You can ask that question about every candidate. Why would anyone want to follow Saban?

We have folks in the fan base who have said (paraphrasing) “we don’t have to win 98% of the games. Just 90% of them and have top 5 recruiting classes.”

Welp looks like Lanning said no. Guess it’s someone we don’t know or Kiffin/Deboar.
No, looks like someone Byrne fed a name to has loose lips.

I don’t think Greg Byrne is operating on the same wavelength as the fans: must have southern ties, must be a proven head coach, must be a proven recruiter, etc.

This probably means it could be a name that’s currently not hot. Be prepared for that possibility.

Man, most of you are clueless. I knew Lanning was never going to happen. He's already making legit money at Oregon. Why take this pressure cooker on.

It sounds like you don't spend much time with extremely successful people. Most successful people like to continually challenge themselves, not just sit back and enjoy something that's comfortable and easy.

Someone with ambition and drive will want to take on a challenge like being the head coach at Alabama.

It's Washington, man. You get Cali scraps, and what the northwest produces.

I was literally just pointing out that the Pate quote was about Harsin… I’m not saying it’s the same exact scenario.

NIL is almost making recruiting obsolete.

Correct. Recruiting is all about how much you're willing to spend on the right guys.

Is this the best news of the day:

There are a lot of things to clean up, to help as we move forward. I'm still going to have a presence here at the university in some form and trying to figure out all that and how it works. This is a place that will never be too far away from Miss Terry's and my hearts.

I'm still thinking Saban will provide a lot of input and support in choosing his successor

Well, he has to compete with Smart, Sark, Heupel, Kelly, Dabo, Kiffin, etc. if he comes here.

Yeah, keep yelling yourself that. Oregon already paying him top dollar. Be realistic.

NIL and transfer portal balances out recruiting. Turns out recruiting all 5 star classes might not be smart longterm.

Look at Nate Oats as an example. He really didn't have any of those things, other than a couple of big tournament wins at Buffalo. His resume did not scream guaranteed success. But was definitely good enough to be worth the risk.

Saban told ESPN he made the decision to retire last weekend after getting back from his home in Florida. Told Chris Low that he will be at Alabama helping the transition and will still have a presence at Alabama. Said that health did play a part in his decision although he said he has no major health issues.
