Yeah but he wasn't even the starter most of the season. They had Damien Harris. Anyway, as others pointed out, Kiffin wasn't even calling that game. I'd argue that he bears a lot of responsibility for the loss because all his drama was a massive distraction, but he didn't actually call those plays.

Done deal stuff was overblown but having a deal done in next 48 hours is not. We won’t have to wait long

I just watched a video of Saban saying that as far as on the field coaching and responding on the fly to what the defense was doing, Kiffin was the best he ever saw.

I'm not anti-Kiffin, but Alabama is a completely different animal. We don't need someone who can draw a play in the dirt on the fly and win a game.

We need someone who will win the game BEFORE it is ever played with recruiting, development, discipline, strength and conditioning, and commitment to excellence.

Lane has won in the SEC. He knows Alabama. He's been here.

He can keep the roster together and move forward. He'll go toe to toe with Kirby and Sark.

I can promise you if we hire DeBoering Kirby and Sark will celebrate with joy.

Kiffin will be able to recruit at Bama. Not so sure about DeBoer.

If it wasn't for the off field shenanigans then Kiffin would be a slam dunk hire...you can't let that stuff get in the way if you really want to win.

Maybe DeBoer would work out and I'd love to be wrong but I think it's way too safe.

Yes and he was the hot hand. But Damian Harris and Josh Jacobs were no slouches either and they got a combined 8 carries I think. Meanwhile Hurts was made to drop back to throw 35+ times even though he was struggling REALLY bad as a passer for multiple games in a row

Lanning is liking tweets on twitter that he hasn't been in Tuscaloosa all week. I think it's safe to say now he wasn't there.

This has been debunked. Here's a screenshot of Lanning's Twitter account that shows the last tweet he liked was on Jan 2nd (thanks Bamagirl!)

What makes you think kiffin can't do that? Look at what he's built at ole miss. They were nothing when he got there. He's doing great with them.

Right. There is a huge difference between a meeting of the minds and finalizing a multi-million dollar contract. A meeting of the minds could have occurred last night. The finer details may take until the end of the day tomorrow to hammer out.

I can’t speak for anyone else but I grew with his significant other. Same town, same age, same friend group. Not going to act like we’re great friends but I know enough. Again, I have no news other than he is interested and they would love to come back to the south and live. Doesn't mean this time will be when they do tho

but he also hired Rich Rod at Arizona.

Well to be fair, it was fricking Arizona football. This is a slightly more attractive job.

Yeah, RichRod was pretty successful by Arizona's standards. Only missed a bowl game once and had a 10 win season. He also hired Mullen at State, which was an objectively great hire for that program.

DeBoer would be the best gameday coach in the SEC day 1 and I promise you, no one in the conference or country who know anything about football would celebrate Bama hiring him.

He’s every bit the offensive mind Sark or Kiffin are and given our QB and WR room we would be back as a top 5 offense immediately.

Recruiting is the hang up, but let’s not pretend Kiffin is some workhorse on the recruiting trail either.

If DeBoer pulled in Top 5 classes (big if) the dynasty might honestly keep rolling

Aren’t DeBoer’s daughters playing softball at Washington? Just saying that sometimes they take into account not wanting to uproot if their kids are super settled, just adds another layer of complexity to the whole thing, especially if there are no other ties to the southeast.

Can’t do Deboer with no proof that he can recruit. He inherited that team and their recruiting class isn’t special. I don’t care who you are, if you come here getting 8 ranked classes while UGA and Auburn gets top 3 classes. He won’t be here long

I agree, DeBoer would have our offense looking better than it has since Sark left. I don't think he'd have much of a problem recruiting offensive talent. I know I said that he had Harsin-y vibes, but the more I think about it, the more I think that it'd be unlikely for him to be anywhere close to the putz that Harsin was.

Saw this on reddit:

quote:

I think one thing you could see with DeBoer is how much the FBS offenses improved when he took over.

In 2013 (a year before he got there), Eastern Michigan ranked 111th in offense. In 2016 (his last season as EMU OC), they ranked 35th.

In 2016 (a year before he got there), Fresno State ranked 120th in offense. In 2018 (his last year as Fresno State OC), they ranked 47th.

In 2019 (a year after he left to coach IU's offense but before he became Fresno State HC), Fresno State ranked 85th in offense. In 2021 (his last year as Fresno HC), they ranked 14th.

Same thing ended up happening at UW. In 2020 (a year before he got there), Washington ranked 115th in offense. This year, UW ranks 10th.

I feel like the pattern of consistent improvement may be a sign that you're a rising star in the coaching ranks.

Kiffin proved he can at least do the portal. DeBoer hasn’t done either (not saying he can’t but we haven’t seen it) I honestly think they would go Norvel before DeBoer. I think he’s third in the race. Marcus Freeman is a dark horse if things fall apart (don’t think it will because Norvel would take it in a heartbeat)
