I have to believe this didn’t catch Byrne and the powers that be by surprise. It might have been a well-kept secret. Surely there is at least an outline of a succession plan, if not a candidate that has already said yes.

I guarantee Saban already hand picked who he wants.

No one besides Kirby is technically "ready" for this shitstorm coming their way

I mean we went to overtime against Michigan and people made it like we suck and were beatdown by them

I think Byrne is smarter than many of our fans.

Coaches rarely pick the best successors so that probably wouldn't be the best thing

Well he hand-picked Houston Nutt last time, so I certainly hope not

Very sad news that I find difficult to accept and comprehend. Nick Saban no longer HCNS for the Alabama Crimson Tide...

But a huge thanks and shout-out to him for all he's done for and accomplished at Alabama. He made Alabama the Golden Standard for all of college football. My goodness will he be missed.

Don’t count out Sark. Hearing from more than one person that he isn’t happy with the boosters at TX. Apparently they won’t get out of his business. He mentioned it to Saban last year according to someone I know very close to the program.

Kiffin in a different tier than Lanning is comical.

Sark and Kirby aren’t happening.

Old news perhaps, but Saban tried to hire Dan Lanning back in 2017:
LINK

Lanning is young for sure, but he's learned from Saban AND Kirby Smart (a) what it takes to win and (b) how to build a winning program. Plus he seems to have the right toughness and attitude to continue Saban's style of football.

Do all of these people that keep begging for Kiffin realize that a year ago he hired Pete fricking Golding to be his DC?

Yeah, I really trust him to make smart personnel decisions as the HC of Alabama.

[img]Kirby Smart
Dan Lanning
Lane Kiffin

Some wildcard pick[/img]

My 2 cents, this is an easy pick.

Kirby would be stupid to come, plus he was a UGA player.

Lane Kiffin and Lanning are big time no's for me, they do not play defense, we would put ourselves in an Oklahoma type situation, never win the big games because of a bad defense. And Lanning is too big of an unknown.

When Saban left LSU the idiot Miles won 1 title and was very close to another in 2011, so for 5 to 10 years you could say Saban left LSU on an auto pilot of sorts.

So, we just need someone who can recruit, and put together a good coaching staff to keep it rolling, and IMHO, Dabo would be that man, he has won two titles he was rigid via not wanting to pay players via the NIL and I think that hurt him somewhat in the last couple of years, Remember, Saban did not like it either, maybe why he is retiring, I hare it also, but alas it is happening, I think Dabo realizes that now.

If an idiot like Les Miles can keep a Nick Saban program running smooth, I think Dabo can also. That would be his dream job, a lifer. He's won 2 already.

Others, imho would be Mich. coach maybe, if he wants to leave but doesn't want to go to the NFL. I would take Harbaugh, but I do nit see it happening tbh. Carrol just got fired at Seahawks, he's done it on the College level before. Then there is Stark at Texas, they have the money, but Bama has the prestige.

Only after this tier has been looked at should we turn to anyone else. Not saying we could get Harbaugh or Carrol, just saying they are the best available at the moment, and that Dabo has proven he can do it also.

Its all about opinions right?
