Where does Texas Tech sit in the order of Texas schools, assuming that Texas and A&M are 1 and 2? I used to think it was #3 but not so sure anymore. Do y'all consider them as a rival?

Texas tech is a big school and lots of our peers went there, but it’s like a Cal grad saying their biggest rival is USC, or UCF saying Florida is their biggest rival. It’s true for one but not the other.

They honestly should be #3 in Texas, and were arguably #2 when Leach was there, but haven’t done shite while tcu and Baylor have actually accomplished something over the past 5-10 years.

Their fans are the worst, though. Feral pieces of trash

Nobody wants Raider rash. Rice is obviously #1 with UT and assTOmouth on their knees at #2

They’ve done a lot for their location etc and apparently gotten under Aggies and LongHorn’s skins. From Dykes to Leach and even Tuberville. They have done well with only Buddy Holly (RIP) as their claim to fame.

Not really a rival. West Texas is very different than the rest. Tech also has the saying to highschoolers “if you can’t get your grades up, get your guns up”, it’s on par with UH Baylor smu etc

Texas Tech is a collection of retards that have been forced to live in the dystopian nightmare that is Lubbock.

I always rag on our Aggie friends about how College Station and the campus reminds me of Soviet era Russia, but Tech is truly 10x worse. It’s a flat, dusty shithole of nothingness. I’d seriously be suicidal if I had to stay in that town for more than 12 hrs. It has this reputation as a party school, but what the frick do they do when they drink? Sit on the porch and watch the tumbleweeds and dirt devils go by? They’ll never be competitive because no top athlete, regardless of money, will ever want to spend their youth there.

Glad there will be no trips to Lubbock going forward. Very nasty, abusive fans both to visiting players and fans. It’s really not safe for visitors. They throw stuff on the field and courts, and Texas Tech has done nothing to clean things up. It’s gotten worse since Texas and A&M became more selective in admissions, and Tech started getting a lot of urban kids who couldn’t get admitted to Texas or A&M. It’s no longer a school who draws its students mostly from west Texas. West Texas has been an area of declining population for decades.

Under Leach and Dykes, Tech would have been a solid # 3 but in general TCU and (gulp) Baylor have been better football programs over the past 10-15 years. Tech is far away from where the majority of the HS football talent is in the state. Strangely, I like every single Tech fan I've ever met and most of the ones I know are incredibly successful, but their overall fanbase (IMO) sucks. I could see them either doing phenomenally well in the Big 12, or moving behind even SMU in the pecking order within the state. Tech does have money, but SMU has a shitload of money and alums that are willing to spend it plus they have recruited surprisingly well (and smartly) over the past several years. I realize the ACC has a lot of bottom dwellers, but I would not be at all surprised to see SMU punch above their weight from day 1 in the conference.

Lubbock gets a lot of shite as a city, and while it's certainly not Austin, it's not like College Station is any better.

#1 & 2 in what?

No, they are not a rival. Texas is theirs, but the feeling isn't reciprocal; but the TT gals are muy bueno. Just above a zero chance Texas will play any old B12/SWC schools or a regular basis again other than SEC.

Lubbock is ~ 350 miles from Austin. It is one of the larger Texas schools, but not many UT alumni live in Lubbock. Texas would prefer to play in DFW & Houston for that reason. For comparison, a circle 350 miles in diameter centered in Alabama would capture every SEC town except Fayetteville & College Station.
