Where do they keep the championship caliber coaches in stock? Lots of programs have been shopping for those things.
Agreed, but I don't think the one the Aggies got is going to be one.

Have you read the ESPN article? It absolutely made sense. And the roster didn't completely implode. A lot of the "problems" are now gone and maybe A&M will build more of a team now. And if nothing else, at least the OL won't be a complete shite show.
I'm excited about guys like Nolen being gone. He wants 2M plus, and will cause a ton of problems in the locker room as a result. I think we will survive, with a creative offensive scheme. I like the "coaches" that Elko is bringing in. God knows we've had zero coaching under Fisher. We kept the QB, and a core of talent. I'm okay with it. The only real surprise was Overton, and he was honestly just misused. Cannot blame him for leaving.

Nolan is a loss but the guy wants 7 figures in NIL. He isn’t worth that.
I hate aubren, but watch them get a few 3 star DL and coach em up. (they do it all the time)
I'm curious to see if Nolan makes a 5 million difference on whatever team pays him. I'd like to have had him out of HS but don't want Bama to enter that bidding war for an entitled kid that may not want to work hard.
We'll see if he's worth it.

I don't think people get how pissed the aggies probably are that Sark is in the CFP only in his third year.
Hey, it was worth a try. It worked for you guys buying the baseball title.

I think with the talent they had they should have told Jimbo he has 1 more year to make playoffs with the 12 team playoff coming.

I just don’t see how sending Jimbo off with $77m and watching a roster implode somehow equates to an upgrade to the program.

Understand the frustration and all of the jokes about one more year, but in this instance I think they should have waited. Elko would have been available in 2024 and more experienced as a head coach.

besides 2020, when was the last time they finished in the top 12?

Wasn’t this past year the one more year, though? Brought in Petrino to help and didn’t see improved results in W/L record.
I do admit that I was slightly surprised they pulled the trigger this year. But I understand the rationale.
There are some really solid players on the roster and Elko still has a chance to compete next year. Competent coaching goes a long way.

quote:One of the biggest issues with Charlie Strong and Tom Herman was their coaching resume and the contacts, or lack of same, they made along the way. They both brought to Texas the G5 assistants they were familiar with, which were not P5 quality and most certainly were not top tier P5. They pulled highly rated recruits, but they didn't get developed properly.

Hiring a coach is just a roll of the dice. Hire the best staff you can, give them the support they need, and hope for the best.
In hind sight, they won at Louisville and Houston with good, experienced QB's, with rosters built by others.
Sark's HC (Washington, USC) experience was not so good, but the other tangible data points were stellar.
He was the OC and architect of Alabama's explosive NC teams.
He was mentored under Nick Saban's and Pete Carroll's NC winning programs.
He coached in the NFL at Oakland & Atlanta.
He played QB at BYU at a high level (His 536 yards passing were the most ever against A&M).
He's played HS football in California.
He made extensive contacts in the coaching world, and he's a likable guy. He took PK from Washington because he coached against him.
The assistants he took from Alabama coach Texas' QB, OL, TE & ST; He pulled his DC & LB from Washington, DB coach from Notre Dame, and from the NFL his DL (Bo Davis) & WR. His only G5 coach played and coached at Georgia Tech(RB Tashard Choice has built a top 5 RB room).
Sark doesn't have to coach his coaches. Bo Davis, Kyle Flood, and Choice recruit the guys they want, regardless of * ratings.

Interesting that you left off the part about Bear Bryant having an undefeated season, winning the southwest conference and having a Heisman Trophy winner while he was coaching at A&M.
And Jimbo had a one loss top 5 season! So pretty dang close like I said. Also you left off the part where yall were cheating in recruiting to get that team paying players and on probation. Even back to the 50s yall couldnt get anyone to join that cult without paying them.

Worst thing they could have done is fire the coach right before OU and Texas come in. Still can’t believe they fired him with the way the defense was playing .

I don't know if moron is the right word. I just think he is very mentally challenged with a low IQ to top it off.

You might be right about mentally challenged. He might actually have one of those worthless OU degrees. Or he could just be another t-shirt nobody ...
Neither is a good proposition.

They were in a lose-lose.
Jimbo clearly didn't give a shite anymore but they also owed him $77 million.
The surprise is that they didn't fire the AD who have him that ridiculous extension.
