Elko is newer than Stoops. It’s anyone’s guess as to if he will end up being better. I won’t make any predictions. All I can do is watch. Stoops has been a head coach for many years now. Elko is still green.

Either stoops is a late bloomer, or he has peaked a couple years ago and what you’re seeing now is what you’ll see infinitum.

Elko is still an unknown. Perhaps his peak will mirror Stoops, perhaps it’ll mirror Smart’s. Or maybe Mike Gundy? Who knows. Can’t say he’s better, worst, or equal though. Just because they kind of look alike and both wear the same shade of blue. They’re different people, at different points in their career.

Stoops can’t recruit Texas like Elko will, especially on defense. He’s known and liked by the Texas coaches, where we get most of our talent. Elko was the better call.
This is a reasonable argument

Wait, what?

Y’all are absolutely unhinged over this.

Go to A Sea of Blue, KSR, anywhere ... Stoops isn't quite the made man that some want to make him out to be. He's under pressure. Pressure from his own success, to be honest. But pressure all the same.

All that said ? I don't know why the A&M response is like this. OK, that's a lie. I do know why.

It didn't work out, and maybe Stoops and A&M simply agreed the fit wasn't right. That's fine. That's actually quite mature, so it's probably bullshite.

A&M mouths can't stand that possibility. They need to "win" this transaction, like they need to win everything else even while they lose, down to something as stupid as a coaching hire from a .500 bottom tier SEC team. Print the cups, A&M. Print the "We got Elko" cups.

Anyone who thinks JayAg and me are making shite up, go to the Wildcat Lair football board. They are shitting on Stoops for the program sliding backward and him leaving them for A&M only to get the rugged pulled from under him. It is all there if anyone wants to read it.
I remember my first time looking at a Rivals message board.

With Elko, we get the Elko DC playbook too. We are getting our fancy blitz package back!

We are a defensive football school now.

Fabulous. Enjoy it. Get what you paid for.

And look at my sig. Do I really need to update it with "This is beyond Elko's abilities - it will be the downfall of him" ? Because I can. I will.

Not a bad hire, but Stoops would have been better. Neither is very exciting to be fair.

Hope it pans out!

Even Stevie Wonder can see that

Only AM fans would put all, their eggs in the basket of a coach that went 8-4 in the ACC, BTW Louisville beat Elko 23-0 while Stoops won 38-31.

If you dropped Stoops just to get Elko then there’s not much hope for you. I can see why people would be skeptical of a Stoops hire but if you pass on that for Elko?

Kelly is going to retire $100 million richer thanks to Mike Elko. Kelly likely would have been fired after 2017 had Elko not orchestrated a miraculous turnaround for ND's D.

Interesting you say that, cause last week Elko wasn’t good enough for A&M by many aggies on this blog. Now he’s the best hire since sliced bread.

And for the record, Stoops was on a plane to College Station last night. He chose A&M over UK.

So, your program is just dysfunctional internally? They had the guy coming to take the job and other people said, naw, you have been over ruled! Maybe that’s the issue with the program, maybe it’s not coaching!

Never thought I'd know what it looked like when a UK coach turned down A&M. Now I do. Fun.

With the hiring today, 46 year-old Mike Elko becomes the youngest Texas A&M head coach since a 45 year-old defensive coordinator named R.C. Slocum ( @rcslocum ) took over in 1989.

Elko took a mediocre team (Duke) and only lost to Louisville by 23.

...Impressive
