Is Ron Roberts the best DC in the country

On 1st and 2nd down?
My Lord 3rd and 17 in the first half, on the last drive of the game 3 and 20 Pritchett makes the tackle with about 2 inches to go for it on 4th, 4th and 31…
I’m not calling for any coach to be fired. I’ve like Roberts defense this year but not sure why he plays zone every 3rd down.
I do think Monty doesn’t come back next season and no sure what is going on with Crime.

We played a decent amount of man on those third and longs, thus why Milroe was able to scramble so much. I agree though, our third and long defense is unbelievably bad

I would be tempted to say neither coordinator returns and both replacements may already be on staff. As far as Crime, I’m wouldn’t mind Marcus Woodson coming back to fill that role.

I would not be surprised if Freeze has a bunch of coordinators wanting to come to Auburn this year. He was in a rush to right the ship when he got hired. Now he has time to pick and choose.

You will see change. My guess is Roberts stays. Montgomery will be moving on or accept the fact that Hugh is in charge.

Why is Roberts still around today? He should have been gone first thing this morning.

Maybe we will get lucky and Louisiana Monroe will hire Montgomery

Freeze had to be heavily involved in that playcall... with the timeout and everything I refuse to believe he wasn't.

Might I offer an outside the box candidate in 36 year old Brennan Marion - current UNLV OC/QBC
As a coach:
West Valley College (2011)
Wide receivers coach
Harker School (2012)
Wide receivers coach
St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School (2013)
Head coach
Waynesboro Area High School (2014)
Head coach
Arizona State (2015)
Offensive quality control assistant
Oklahoma Baptist (2016)
Running backs coach
Howard (2017–2018)
Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
William & Mary (2019)
Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
Hawaii (2020)
Wide receivers coach
Pittsburgh (2021)
Wide receivers coach
Texas (2022)
Pass game coordinator & wide receivers coach
UNLV (2023–present)
Offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach
Experience as an OC/WRC/QBC/passing game coordinator.
Known for the biggest point spread upset in history as OC at Howard in 2017 (45 point dogs and won 43-40 with Caylin Newton at QB).
WRC at Pitt in 2021 where Addison won the Bilitnekof
WRC/pass game coordinator at Texas in 2022 developing Xavier Worthy and Quinn Ewers
UNLV offense runs a system that would fit Hugh’s preferences for style/playcalling.
As a player:
NCAA all time leader in Yards per Reception at 28 during his time at Tulsa.
Can he croot? No idea.
ETA: as I’m learning more about this guy the more I like him
quote:
The inventor of the GoGo offense (described as a mixture of triple option with spread concepts, nothing relevant or in vogue about that right now), he actually started his coaching career as a head coach at the high school level, where he made literally every team he touched into gold before eventually moving up to college.
Also he’s currently a top candidate at Penn State

I think we held nearly every SEC team we played below their scoring average. Our WRs we're dog shite this year..I don't know if any OC in the country could scheme those guys open.
I would for sure bring Roberts back and I lean heavily towards bringing Montgomery back. His offenses have put up good numbers everywhere.. I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and say we just didn't have very good offensive personnel at QB and WR.
Given that if we do make a change at OC it would most likely be Kent Austin imo, I would at least wait until camp and see how Monty is doing with better weapons. Maybe you flip Austins and Montys roles though?
I said this on Reddit the other day, but I think there's at least a 1% chance that Austin gets named OC and our favorite boy Dameyune Craig takes Austins spot as an analyst. Would help lockdown Coleman and maybe some transfers from TAM.

I would be ok with everyone coming back if they all got on the same page. Auburn has got to get better receivers and better blocking on the oline. Definitely need 1 or two pass rushers and someone to replace Harris on the dline.

According to Freeze, the DB's did not play the 4th and 31 the way the coaches called it, even after burning a timeout to make sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do.
If that is true, there were two catastrophic failures of the DB's that gave Alabama two TD's in that game: one early in the game where the corner and the safety did not guard the WR which resulted in an unopposed TD, and then the disaster of 4th and 31.
If I were Roberts, I would point that out.
Also, Freeze himself deserves a lot of criticism for wasting half the year rotating Ashford at QB. It is clear that he does not understand the offense at all. Even his runs are unproductive, if not downright damaging to the team. Thorne, despite not being as athletic, clearly understands the formations and blocking and knows where to run. He is a more productive runner, and he obviously can execute more of the offense as QB. If Freeze hadn't wasted so much time on Ashford, Thorne might have been more effective, and maybe, one WR or one TE might have got into a rhythm and might have made a difference. Instead, I think the Thorne/Ashford struggle hindered the team.

I’ve got no problem with Ron Roberts. The dude did miracle work with a cast mostly of characters not fit for SEC football.

Places are looking at him for higher positions from HC to OC at much larger programs.

That 4th and 31 will certainly put him into the record books.

Jake Crain said this today. He said he would bring DC back just for croots.
