Man I don’t see how you could say anyone on the team is an “elite defender”

They picked it up in the tourney but were not good basically entire year

Griffen is an elite defender. Wouldn't be shocked if he lands at UCONN or Kansas or some other blue-blood. You don't get offered bags by a blue-blood if you're just an above average role player.
Defense wasn't a priority at BAMA until the tournament, but Griffen has been BAMA's best defender this season by far. He'll go to Kansas or somewhere and be a first round draft pick.

Look guys, this is a forum. Of fans of Alabama. Why are we all on here everyday? To talk Bama football and basketball. I come here to get information and to discuss the teams I love.

I had some information from someone I know who is an insider on another board. I shared it because I thought it was interesting and it related to Bama. People on this board that read what I posted clearly think either I am or he is full of it.

The guy is legit. He told me on April 03 that Parker and Griffen were heading to the portal. Here is the proof. He is legit. You can see my question to him on April 03 when I asked him if he knew of anybody transferring after the season.

Hey Indy! You still have info on Bama or did that end with Hodgson leaving? Oats just got Houston Mallette from Pepperdine. Any idea who else might end up at Bama from the portal for next year? Any idea who might replace Austin Claunch now that he is heading to UTSA? And do you think either Derrion Reid or Aiden Sherrell come in next year and have big impact? Thanks!!

Bama is always active in the portal ...

I would look at Saddi Washington for that open assistant spot ...

My main connections to Bama were Antoine and Hodg ... But I get tidbits here and there ...

I think both of those freshman start next year and Khani Rooths could come as well ...

Hey Indy. I see you said some guys still in the dance will be entering the portal. Any of those guys currently on Bama? Have you heard any names that Bama will be bringing in from the portal? Other than Houston Mallette? Thanks.

I understand what you are saying but that's still not game changing information.

I been said Saddi Washington would be a name to watch. There's plenty of others who have as well.

Rylan Griffen almost left last year and others already knew he was leaving after this season ended. I think he was upset he came off the bench earlier in the season.

Everybody in their mama knew Kris Parker was transferring.

My question is, why buddy ain't telling you about the new basketball facility that's fixing to get built?

It doesn't matter to me how soon anyone knows what is happening in a given scenario. I realize people get internet cred by knowing insider info, but that doesn't matter to me. Maybe I'm alone in this.
One reason it doesn't matter to me is I can't do shite about it.
My reason for coming here isn't to get some inside scoop. My reason for coming here is to discuss hypotheticals and what HAS happened already.
Do I think Griffen leaving would suck? Yes. But it's a hypothetical at this point. If he leaves, I would be more interested in discussing who replaces him WAY MORE than where he lands.
So... continue to add any info to this forum you want or don't. frick the people that question you or mock you. Are you really here to discuss BAMA or are you here for online cred?

I think you are getting hoodwinked Bro.

This guy is giving you stuff pretty much everyone knows or assumes but isn’t official yet and acting like he has connections and sources

The numbers suggest otherwise. We were worse defensively across the board when he was on the floor. He had games where he did well. But there is a bit of an illusion regarding his defense because he was the only guy his size who we could put on wings.

EvanMiya has him as the worst defender from our regular rotation, at least from a per possession basis. And we were roughly 7pts per 100 possessions better when he was on the bench.

He had games where absolutely locked down some guys, but his average effort level was poor on the defensive end.

Now, his potential as a defender is incredible, obviously. But he's been inconsistent at best on that end.

Kansas has already reached out to Griffin. Probably been tampering with him for a while

After giving up like 90 points every other game, wanting to have someone return for their defensive prowess is of little interest to me.
It's like wanting to date that model again because her voice is pleasant.

yes, he is gonna get paid. But its not going to be anything outrageous. Hes certainly not sniffing a million, unless WWE invite him into their NIL partnership and that combines with other offers.

I think people also need to remember the video from last year's offseason where Griffin and Burnett both shite talked Bama and the staff. I was surprised he came back for a 2nd year. Let him go.

I also don’t remember that video. I don’t think I saw it but I checked out once a bunch of guys transferred. What’d they say?

Bingo. There are a ton of defensive guys we can get if that is all we are looking for.

We can definitely get the production elsewhere I’m sure. We’ll be fine.

I liked Rylan’s game but I’m more disappointed that he’s leaving because I wanted to cheer for him. Same way I felt about JQ leaving. Obviously we didn’t have a problem replacing JQs production but what we missed out on is feeling like he’s our guy for the rest of his career. Like the way every once in a while someone will post an update on Retin Obasohan.

That’s the part that the portal really strips away. I check the box scores of games to see how Herb and Keon are doing. I cheer for the Hornets when I otherwise wouldn’t care. That is the biggest loss in all this is I do think it would be valuable to these guys to have a place to come back to in 15 years. Robert Horry being at the final 4 was cool. Bryce young watching the sweet 16 was awesome.

In 20 years when we hold a ceremony for our first Final 4 team does Rylan even come back? He was a big part of why we made it, but he’s just a college mercenary. He’ll be Kansas’ guy or whoever.

It sucks but I will appreciate the guys who are here and want to be part of our place.

I don't think Rylan would be welcomed back at a 10 year reunion of Bama's 1st Final 4 team. Depends on what happens going forward, but right now, that guy has burned a bridge.

So were Sears, Estrada, Nelson, Wrightsell, and Pringle and they all started their careers elsewhere.

I completely agree with the spirit of what you are saying, but the portal hasn't exactly been unkind to us from a competitive standpoint. In terms of the overall health of the sport annual unrestricted free agency for all players is totally unsustainable though.

Think it's different when it's a mid-major to high-major transfer situation.

Look guys, this is a forum

Just keep posting whatever you've got, man. Most of us understand how this stuff works and are just trying to have some fun.

People on the football side, for example, still get lambasted over nuggets I know are 100% correct. Sometimes people post things that are completely wrong. It happens.

Some of us know a little bit, some a lot more, but no one ever knows all of it.

To be clear though, in the same spirit of this being a forum for discussion, your right of expression is the same as that of others to vote and/or reply as they choose. Don't take it personally.

That and also in all honesty I won’t really look at a Grant if he leaves after this year the same as I do some other guys either. I appreciate what he did here, but transferring in for a year and pretty much explicitly stating it’s a stepping stone situation doesn’t really win me over emotionally.

Like him and will hope he does great, but I can’t see him coming back for games once he’s gone like Brandon or Herb does.

The guys that come in for a year(aside from obvious NBA picks) don’t really move the emotional needle for me.
