I don't know what this is. Rylan seemed like a Gump for life.

I think his destination might tell us more, if it actually happens. Will he transfer down and go be the man somewhere, or will he go be a role player for a team throwing out bags?

It wouldn't shock me if another person in particular does this as well.

Top 3 player on this team.

I have no idea. To me, he's a very good role player that can help a lot of teams. I don't know what teams will pay for that. I hate everything about the new sports world.

I figure he was promised bags. He’s in a perfect system for him

I can’t really blame him. There is a chance that the next 2 years will be the highest salary of his life. I’ll remember him fondly just like JQ

Either he's being forced out or he's leaving for more money.

I don't see any alternative that makes sense. He's starting for a top 5 program and showing off his skill set.

So either he's been told to find somewhere else to make room for new guys (very, very unlikely) or someone tampered with him and offered him more money.

frick this stupid system.

Herb Jones is different. In all the right ways.

That definitely changes the narrative. I'm curious why he wanted to transfer mid season. Though i doubt we'll get an answer. Just hate to lose a player like him. He's made steady progress with his development. And i was really looking forward to seeing him next year. But that does explain why we grabbed Mallette so quickly.

It all makes sense now. He's leaving to become a wrassler.

Who is the last guy to be recruiting to Bama out of HS, play 4 years, and graduate?

Herb, Reese, and Petty probably.

Crazy those may also be the last as well, unless we stumble across a good but not great player who's content to play a supporting role and not chase a bag.

So it's been 3 years. How much longer will it go?

If my math is right, next year's senior class could have had Josh Primo, Alex Tchikou, Keon Ambrose, and Darius Miles (whoops) in it. JD Davison and Charles Bediako would be juniors.

So to sum up the last few years:

In the 2019 class there were 5 signees

2 transferred after his freshman year
2 transferred after his junior year
1 declared for the NBA after his junior year (Shackelford)

In the 2020 class there were 5 signees

1 declared for the NBA after his freshman year (Primo)
2 left after his sophomore year
1 was kicked off the team due to murder charges

In the 2021 class there were 3 signees

1 declared for the NBA after his freshman year (Davison)
1 transferred after his freshman year
1 declared for the NBA after his sophomore year (Bedkiako)

So no one had it past their 2nd year from the 2021 class

In the 2022 class there were 5 signees (Pringle was JuCo)

2 declared for the NBA draft after their freshman year (Miller and Pringle)
1 transferred after his freshman year
1 transferred after his sophomore year (Griffen)
Crosby is still on the roster.

In the 2023 class there were 4 signees.
1 transferred after his freshman year (Kris Parker)
3 are still on the roster

---

So if a guy makes it to his junior year that's unsual.

And what do Herb, Reese and Petty all have in common? Probably several things, but they are all Alabama high school recruits. Bama runs deep in Alabama kids.

Yep. If we had recruited Sears out of high school he would have been a 4 year guy. You basically have to thread the needle and land a guy who has a strong emotional attachment to the program and is also a good college player with some kind of limiting factor to his game that makes him an iffy NBA prospect. If all of that doesn't apply to a player, it's a virtual certainty he transfers or goes pro early these days.
