Don’t understand Griffen to the portal at all. Starter on a final 4 team leaving is just wild to me. The guardrails are needed

I said it. The tampering for him was gonna be crazy. Probably Kansas. They tried getting him after last season

He was talked out of it last year I believe so it doesn’t surprise me. He fits the Oats system to a T though and I expected him to have huge minutes next year. Idk if there’s a better system for his draft stock.

We will be alright. Oats has the money to get us a great roster. Wish Rylan the best tho.

Where are you seeing RG in the portal? That wouldn’t make any sense

Agree 100%. The only kick in the nuts is there are players I want to see finish their career with Bama. Rylan is one of them. Don’t blame him for getting a bag and best of luck. Still think he’s leaving money on the table by going to a new system.

I saw one tweet so it’s not completely confirmed.

Griffin is a big loss. Hard to replace that. Seems like a money move.

If he ain’t wearing Crimson…

I see a couple unverified tweets from random dudes on twitter but nothing I would consider close to authentic

Who knows though, it’s wild out there

They could have gotten Billy Donovan if they just waited but they were worried it would be too late to build a team for next year….hell if you gotta sacrifice next season to get Billy Donovan you do it IMO.

they got all the transfer portal time in the world soon...if they wait for him, boosters need to be prepared to buy him a roster

What the frick is going on? This is something I never expected. He was ready to take on a big role for Bama next season.

I enjoy watching players improve their weaknesses and improve as they play since their freshman year.

But I totally understand because it's all business.

Is he definitely gone or just entering the portal to see what kind of offers he gets and weigh if it's worth leaving Bama?

I really hate what the transfer portal has done. Players now are just hired guns. Sad what it's done to collegiate athletics.

He plays the same position as Chris Youngblood I think. Both are really really good, I think Youngblood is better so if we land him it’s no bid deal

I agree mistaken. Rylan had a great tournament and big upside but we can honestly find someone better. Rylan was inconsistent and wasn’t a good free throw shooter. We will miss his length but we can find his offensive production easily. Oats has a plan and we will be fine. Best of luck to Rylan.

This is the tough part about enjoying the new normal of college sports. You really can’t enjoy or be a fan of the players anymore(especially in basketball) because it’s year to year. Even if they aren’t going pro they’re hoping around. Rylan was probably my favorite player this year. Last year Burnett was one of my 3 favorites. And JQ I felt so invested in.

The new normal is just really hoping you like your coaching staff and you can keep them in place because having any faith in players staying more than a year or 2 is a fools errand. It kinda sucks but in Oats I trust.

KY hiring Pope means that they didn't throw money at somebody except maybe Hurley (if that report is true). This is a panic hire.
I'm convinced that Oats would be in Lexington right now for $10m.
The buyout is what kept it from happening.
Paying $28m for a coach to coach in 24-25 season was too much for KY. Not sure any school would do that.
Byrne should be commended on keeping Oats in Tuscaloosa. Now, it's time to win a natty. Oats is going to win multiple natties unless he jumps to the NBA. Here's to them being at BAMA.

Sucks. Griffen is an elite defender. You don't need points from every player to win. But you do need every player to play D. Griffen was more than enough of a scoring threat to justify having him on the floor because of his defense.
