Never used to see it.

Happened 3 times in LSU/Mizzou
Happened 3 times in TX/OU
Happened again in UGA/UK

New guidance must have come out

I get the idea of it, but calling penalties for the linebacker clapping is lame and can kill momentum

We got called because of the "move" signal that our DL uses for the shift at home. It's stupid.

I didn’t agree with any of the ones in LSU/Mizzou (on either team). I get that it’s hard to distinguish between a guy clapping to motivate his defense and a guy trying to fool the line, but it’s just weird.

I understand when it’s a DL inches from the ball…but calling it on a linebacker 8 to 12 yards off the ball seems a little questionable

I think it’s becoming more prevalent because so many offenses go on a clap now.

This. How does anyone on the second level or beyond influence with a clap?

We are going the wrong way and coddling offenses more and more.

Yeah, and I know the one on LSU was a safety. Weren't both of Mizzou's on LB?

Absolute BS calls, all 3.

The second time it was called against LSU the QB wasn’t even behind center. When QB stepped away, DB claps 3 times to fire up a teammate.

Only a clown makes that call.

Especially when 80,000 other people are clapping.

As you should. That’s the reason UGA does it.

Is it the word move? Or is the defense not alllowed to call out to each other at all?

It’s pretty simple. UGA shifts their whole line at the last second to simulate a snap and try to get a false start.

8 to 12 yards?

Try 3-5 yards. Also, the guys listening for the clap are sometimes three yards from the QB and just as close to the LB as to the QB.

I’m glad they are finally doing this. There will be an acclimation period, but the game will be better for this.

And why is that a problem? Is it the actual shifting of the line that’s an issue? They are required to not move prior to snap? They did that about 5-10 times last night but only 1 penalty.
