Then Reeves deserves more at bats. Cannot be any worse the 198

Not on offense. What about defense?

Did the game play out the way you expected?

No, but it played out almost exactly as I hoped.

needed the win, but sort of surprised we used evans in relief in a tourney like this.

That’s why he used Shores to get it to a one inning save for Evans. That doesn’t affect Evans availability at all.

We've been downward "adjusting" the inflation data for decades; hedonics, substitution, owner's equivalent rent, etc. This is the game govts play when they don't want to admit they're abusing their currency. But, I understand. Everyone wants to see the whites of hyperinflation's eyes before admitting inflation is a big problem. We would've seen it already, but we discovered we could offshore production that became too expensive at home. That's not a solution, it's a patch and it's coming to an end because the rest of the world can no longer ignore our out of control debt. This recent run-in with double digit inflation wasn't an aberration, it was a precursor of something much worse.

I agree with this paragraph. I really liked the evocative writing in…

I think you diagnose the situation we are in very well…it’s just nothing like the situation that led to the French Revolution. That was a citizenry without the right to vote, with no rights, subject to the whims of the aristocracy and teetering on starvation. There are some similarities in the indebtedness and the coming inflation, but ot enough to use the French Revolution as any kind of guide to the current situation.

Although it’s a very imperfect example the German experience in the 1930s is a better example.
quote:

Surely y’all got into that a little bit?

No. He is a neighbor who I like. We got into politics a bit during covid, because I was pissed at the lockdowns, etc, and he thought they were all in good form. I think events have born me out, but maybe he does too. Anyway I decided I liked the guy too much to let politics interfere.

Nothing you wrote tells me they’re good people.
Nothing I could possibly write could convince you of that.

I was really hoping for more detail on why they see the Dems, see the alternatives, and still vote Dem.

I think it’s a little like the frog that gets boiled to death because he doesn’t sense the temperature rising gradually. He has always been a center-left guy who reads the New York Times. He didn’t notice that the NYT gradually went from center-left to solidly left wing because it happened over many years.

And I had more than “a nice dinner” with them. I’ve had about 60 nice dinners with them. And you know why? Because they’re NICE PEOPLE.

Wars, debt, inflation, hunger, chaos.

Wars? They had to fight wars and be ravaged by them. That's a far cry from any war we've had in decades. We are insulated from wars.

Chaos? No, chaos was the result of those other things and a lack of consistency from a very weak king.

Inflation? It's about 2.3%

Debt? Yep.

Iran warns it will target US, UK, and French bases/ships

That’s like me threatening to beat up the whole NFL.

Throw them all out!!!

That is what we were told he was going to do.

Well sure. That’s what you were told by the campaigning politician. But if you read this board, some of us were telling you that it would not happen because the economic damage would be too severe. You just didn’t listen to us.
I’m 62, so tail end of the Boomers. When I was in my 30’s we struggled to make ends meet, and I could not afford to take my family on vacations AT ALL. I got richer as I got older. Now I can do whatever the frick I want to. So your description of the different generations did not sound bad at all to me.

You have a point that inflation is hurting people’s prospects. And young people have a reason to be mad at Boomers, but it’s because Boomers did a shitty job raising their children. Not me and my wife, though. All four of our kids are in their 30’s and doing well. They are all on track to a comfortable future. But they were raised to have self-discipline, and they do.

Comprehend what you are reading. It's not that difficult.

In other words, you have no answer to his question.

The west looks extremely similar to pre-revolutionary France.

They had no food in pre-revolutionary France. We do not look like them at all. They often had the right to rape peasants.

The speed in which MAGA is able to contort is breathtaking

How do you know the guy who wrote that is MAGA. I supported Trump, but I’m not MAGA, and I hold the same view that we should leave honest workers alone and deport the grifters and criminals.

I like the idea someone expressed above; create a temporary work visa, give them 60 days to apply for it. They have to be sponsored by an employer and have at least a five year history of employment. These, and their dependent spouses and children are then legal and protected. Throw everyone else out.
quote:

all the boomers thought Reagan was amazing because he had “charisma”

I think Reagan was great because he…

- Ended a dark period of national decline
- Turned stagflation into a 40 year boom that made America hegemonic in the world
- Ended the cold war
- Cut federal income taxes drastically. lowering the top rate about 35 percentage points.

He wasn’t perfect, but he was the best President of my lifetime.

The scaling back of some ICE operations reflects increased concern among industry leaders that the Trump administration's aggressive and government-wide immigration crackdown was hindering their businesses and the broader U.S. economy by spooking their workforce.

Yeah, no shite. And next it will be construction, fabrication and landscaping. You can’t suddenly end the illegals’ participation in our economy without crashing the economy.

BBC tends to report unbiased news that we’re not used to

No indeed not! BBC is a left wing news organization.

The wife of a marine and postpartum mother of a 9-week old baby who she nurses was seized from an immigration office in Baton Rouge recently and sent to a detention center in Monroe. All these “pro-life” posters on this board don’t actually gaf about innocent babies.

Holy smokes! They killed the baby?

Doesn't matter how nice someone is, if they see how something like this isn't good and still vote for it, they are not good people inside.

The question is, can a democrat be a good person. I’ve won the argument to any reasonable observer, but I’ll concede that if you get to define all of the terms you can win the argument.

the entire world views Israel as a pariah state for their warmongering, their murder of innocents, their systemic apartheid

20% of Israeli citizens are Arabs. They have full rights, and there is no apartheid. If you mean apartheid from non-citizens, well, that’s not apartheid.
quote:

I cannot understand the depth of your manifest hatred for Israel so flimsily disguised in this post.

This canard. Maybe he is wrong, but the guy showed no hate toward Israel. And the pro-Zionist types are wearing out (have worn out) the accusations of antisemitism.
