You are joking, but left-center Matthew Yglesias argues that the DSA should join republicans in the bargain to repeal the filibuster and pass SAVE.

Yglesias thinks SAVE will take as many votes from republicans as dems, and he notes that the filibuster helps conservatives and hurts progressives.

I think he's wrong on the former but right on the latter.

This case does not bother me. The deal for a Louisiana data center did not radically affect META stock values. So I’m not sure she had any inside information that was valuable for META stock or NVIDIA’s.

If she had bought stock in the company that was being awarded the META EPC contract, and that contract substantially affected the EPC company’s value, then I would see a smoking gun.

I have a management company that buys and sells stocks and bonds with my investment portfolio. For months I pay zero attention to what they are doing, then I’ll pull up the activity log and look it over. NVIDIA and META are two of a half dozen companies that make up 70% of publicly traded market caps in the US markets. So naturally there is a lot of activity on those companies in my portfolio activity log. I’m sure it could be correlated to when I had my physical, when we went on vacation, or when I met with my buddy who is a stockbroker. But there is no real correlation to any of that.

The point remains that considering danger in filling up is irrational.

It gave a table of performance which was too awkward to paste here.It showed an EV with 300 mile advertised range compared to ICE with 400 miles. They both reached Lafayette from NOLA in 8 hours (I specified that) of stop and go traffic.

The weakness I see in the EV case is that the 400 miles of ICE range is probably accurate, whereas the EV range deteriorates with time and use. So this analysis is probably true for a new EV but it would get worse for the EV as it ages.

The EV also discharges with the AC. I doubt EVs are going to get you farther in an evacuation. I suspect it is the other way round.

I have an EV and and ICE vehicle, and if I ever have to evacuate NOLA, with the herd, I will use the ICE vehicle. The next evacuation will give us the first useful data on this.

It’s a BMW iX M60

I own an electric BMW. Outside of charging on long trips there is only one other thing negative about it - it’s heavy. It drives great, but it damages roads and maybe even driveways. My driveway has cracks on my side but not on my wife’s side. To be clear, it isn’t the slab cracking but the pavers on top of the slab.

Other than those it is far better than any ICE vehicle I’ve ever driven. I can jump into traffic that I would not attempt in an ICE vehicle. And it’s very convenient to never stop at gas stations. I plug it into the charger in my garage and in the morning it’s 80% charged. That’s where you should limit it if you want the battery to last a long time.

So that means the range is at least 20% less than they say. The real range, is about 200 miles. It can go farther than that if you don’t mind risking running out of charge looking for a charging station, or if you charge it over 80%.
