re: Are we pursuing Glauber - Pitcher from UNC
Posted by DallasTiger45 on 6/22/26 at 10:55 am to Portcityblues
I'm sure LSU sends out feelers to any stud player's representation to see if they are receptive to a potential move. Hopefully they are not stupid enough to contact the kids directly if they aren't in the portal yet.

Truth. We need to cut down on the opposition scoring. That includes defense for certain. We had way too many errors. They change the rhythm and dynamics of the game.
Speaking of rhythm and dynamics of the game...I'm wondering how good our staff can be if the level of catcher play doesn't improve from last year. I guess the good news is only one of Bide or Serna needs to take the leap defensively, but IMO whether or not that happens may be more impactful than any pitchers we pick up in the transfer portal.

If we had a staff full of Zac Cowans, LSU would never win anything meaningful. That should be obvious.

I don’t believe the Spurs would have legit interest in Murray for Fox unless Murray is routed to a 3rd team.
I have no idea if Murray would go for this, but they have zero lead guard depth if Fox is out of the picture. It's basically Harper, Castle, and league minimum flotsam. Murray coming off the bench for $20-25 million less than Fox would probably be agreeable to them. Plus he'd expire around when Castle is due for an extension.

I'll say it for the 100th time, it's about wanting more range up the middle. It's not a complicated concept.
Range is an important factor at 3rd base as well. Why do you think many college 3rd basemen turn into 1st basemen in the pros? It's usually not a deficiency with the arm - it's foot speed and fluidity as a defender.

The winner list from the last decade plus is a lot of meh. Best QB's to win were Tua, Stroud, and Caleb Williams.
Yea man, these are terrible outcomes.
2025 - Dia Bell (Too early to tell)
2024 - Keelon Russell (too early to tell)
2023 - Julian Sayin (Heisman finalist)
2022 - Jackson Arnold (he stinks)
2021 - Cade Klubnik (solid, nothing special)
2020 - Caleb Williams (Heisman winner)
2019 - CJ Stroud (Heisman finalist)
2018 - Spencer Rattler (solid, nothing special)
2017 - Justin Fields (Heisman finalist)
2016 - Tua (Heisman finalist)
50/50 chance at a Heisman finalist = "a lot of meh"

Dude who can run and extend plays and throws with accuracy will help you get over his size.
We said the same about Russell Shepard.
This might be one of the most racist things I’ve ever seen on this board lol, literally the only thing similar about their games is they’re both black.
Shepard ran for more yards than he passed for his senior year of high school. He looked awful as a QB in the passing drills.
Pop Houston goes for 4000 and 40 passing every season and wins most accurate at the Elite 11.
Just couldn’t be more different

What type of compensation would you move for 2027 1.1 (Jeremiah Smith)?
He will probably be a top 12 dynasty asset (non-SF) immediately, so that's the type of player you'll need to move for him.

He's got an uphill climb, because he will both have to hit enough at every level and prove he can continue to field at shortstop at every level.

But he will get less of a leash than most guys.
Yea this is where the lack of size/speed/strength standpoint hurt him, he will get less chances to prove it because there's no future projection to dream on.
I mostly wanted to call out the people ITT saying he'll definitely never be a big leaguer because he's short. Acting like that's a total disqualifier is dumb.

I'm with Lester here. I think Milam has a solid shot to put on a big league uniform one day.
Y'all think middle infielders who are excellent defenders and can give you credible ABs from both sides of the plate grow on trees, and they really don't. Lots of teams would love to have a utility guy like that

I'd be shocked if Graves fell out of the first round, more likely to go top 20 than he is to be a 2nd rounder IMO.

Supposedly, LSU put together a package that would be double what Graves will make next season in the NBA. I think the staff felt pretty good about that, but in the end, Graves wanted to be in the NBA.
The 18th pick in last year’s draft made $4 million as a rookie- we were gonna pay graves upwards of $8 million?

There are too many guys in the big leagues and minors that can play defense as well, hit for close to the same average and, most importantly, hit 25+ hrs a year. Power is at a premium in today's game, particularly for outfielders.
There were like 5 guys last year in the entire major leagues who played good outfield defense, hit .270+, and hit 20 homers. But I guess in your fantasy land those guys are easy to find

Yup. OP sees warm weather, I think back half of conference play + postseason baseball. Good to hit well in the games that really matter.

Gonna get killed for this and I’ll absolutely pull for him to prove me wrong but I don’t see the Derek Curiel 1st round hype, reminds me of a less powerful Cam Cannarella that went pick 43 last year. Not that he can’t be successful but that his skill set isn’t 1st round value type stuff.
He's not less powerful than Cannarella, who only hit 23 dingers over 3 years. I would bet Curiel has a better future power grade than Cannarella due to age + frame.
I agree that Curiel is more of a back half of the first round guy on pure prospect rating, but I think an org will "overdraft" him because they feel like he's safe. 3 above average tools with good makeup has a lot of value to some organizations. Especially if they feel they can sign him to a deal and spend up in rounds 2-5 on higher upside guys.

Jake Brown looks to have way more of a mlb first round, elite level skill set.
I don't agree with this. You can tell a story on how Brown becomes an avg big league left fielder but I have concerns on his swing translating

Yeah, I don't want to recruit over him, but at the same time you need to get a day 1 contributer in the middle infield. I hope Jay is able to convey that message to him. If he gets better, he'll have a shot at multiple infield positions.
We have zero locked in starters between 3rd/short/2nd. You have to bring in plenty of portal competition, but Ruckert will also get his shot to lock down one of those spots.

Sadiq is a steal at 1.12.
I echo others that I think Branch was overdrafted, but the early 2nd round is hard this year.
