re: What about Jake Retzlaff?

My point is we would be bringing him in with another, hopefully better QB. We need 2 maybe 3 guys from the portal for next season. I’d be disappointed if he were the only or even the best guy we targeted. But did put up 330 yards of offense in A CFP, and he has YEARS of experience. So I’m not sure we are going to get much better than that as our seconds QB option.

This guy just started for a very good G5 team. He was the QB for a 10-2 BYU team. Why would he come to LSU for his last year to likely sit on the bench? It just doesn't make sense, man.

Is he any good who does he remind you of

Taylen Green from Arky. Great runner, long strides. Good arm but not exactly a crisp passer. He'd do well in a spread offense like what Lane runs
quote:

never started 3 from one team before

Since Brisket took over the Cards are averaging 358 yards per game, 30 over the league average of 328 a game. That's despite play 4 of the best defenses in the league - Seattle, Rams, Texans, and Packers.

There should be plenty to go around against an Atlanta defense that is not playing well.

Was he injured in 2022 and if so is there proof of injury?

Idk if anyone knows that for sure except Trinidad and his team, but given the fact he’s filing an appeal for a medical redshirt…I’m guessing he had some sort of injury during that season.

re: Mestemaker to enter portal

No QB entering the portal is perfect. The standards on this board are ridiculous.

Sam Leavitt vs Miss State: 10 of 22, 82 yards, 1 TD, 2 picks

Sorsby had a game this year where he threw for 69 yards. He had another one where he went 11 of 33

CJ Bailey averaged 150 yards and threw a combined 5 picks against ND and Miami

Mestemaker didn't play his best vs Tulane. His OL was also getting dominated up front and his WRs dropped a few catchable balls. One bad game shouldn't dissuade anyone because pretty much every college QB who isn't 2019 Joe Burrow has had a stinker or 2.

But then you look at Trinidad's game log...dude brings it every game. I think he's option #1 if you want a plug and play, rocksolid guy next year.

Unpopular opinion…I don’t think Chambliss is elite

Their competition level was shite this year.

Ole Miss played three top 10 defenses, per SP+: OU #3, UGA #6, LSU #9

His team scored 31 points per game

He averaged 353 total yards per game in those 3

Idk man, seems like he’s pretty fricking good to me

They ALWAYS have a cake walk schedule! ALWAYS!

They have played Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss each of the last 2 years

It’s just as good as Silverfield, Golesh, and Sumrall all of whom got SEC jobs

He probably would have been the 2nd most desirable coach in this cycle if he wanted to leave
I think Sellers declares. Have to believe he'll be a first round pick, it's easy enough to excuse away the production due to his situation

Would like either lagway or Sellers. I think Sellers would kill it in Kiffin offense. Lagway needs change of scenery.

Would prefer Sellers. Both very talented, but you want your QB to be THE DUDE. The way people around the USCe program talk about Sellers, they think he's got all the intangibles needed to lead a team/program. I'm not saying Lagway is a bad guy, but not sure I've gotten the same vibe about him from Florida fans/beat writers.

So Chambliss accounted for 21 of his team's 24 points and Mestemaker accounted for 28 of his team's 59 points?

You're not really making much of an argument of Mestemaker over Chambliss. You're making an argument that North Texas itself was better for one game than Ole Miss vs a similar opponent.

Not meant to be an argument for Mestemaker > Chambliss. Just a data point they have in common, used to refute the Tulane game as some kind of proof that Mestemaker can't play.

quote:

And I think Mestemaker is damn good. I brought him up when I was looking up their OC and HC before Kelly was fired. However Chambliss has done it in the SEC, has done it in LK's offense, is a true dual threat, and will be a 5th year senior if he is awarded a shot. Chambliss is showing the same direction of Deigo Pavia. Year one to year 2 in the SEC.

Agreed that Chambliss is definitely a safer bet for 2026 due to experience in Lane's system/vs SEC athletes.

I'm not as confident as others that Chambliss 1) wins his appeal 2) wants to transfer to LSU even if he does. I'm sure he has loyalty to Lane, but it seems like he also likes Ole Miss. Certainly Ole Miss will pony up with matching money to keep him, the optics would be terrible if their old coach comes back and takes their stud QB.

If Chambliss ain't coming, Mestemaker is an excellent option.
quote:

Define wreck shite. He’s been efficient, but 18 TDs is pretty pedestrian

Just because they run it at the goal line doesn't mean Chambliss isn't playing well. He's a good player.
quote:

I firmly believe that LSU could beat James Madison, Tulane, even Alabama yet they get playoff bids.

I mean, yea we could beat them. We could also lose to them. Our end of season team would probably be an underdog to all 3
quote:

Meanwhile, Chambliss stats vs Tulane:

17/27 for 306 yards and 2 Toucdowns
14 carries for 112 yards

Mestemaker vs Washington St

24 of 29 for 211, 4 TDs. 59 Team points

Chambliss vs Washington St

20 of 29 for 253, 2 pass TDs + 1 Rush TD. 24 team points

And Mestemaker's supporting cast isn't quite as good as Trinidad's, to say the least. He's a good player.

Williams would be a great get. Really talented guy.
quote:

How did he throw 5 picks in 1.5 games?

He threw 4 in his 2 starts. Very confident with his arm because he’s got a cannon and the linebackers got him when going over the middle. When he wasn’t throwing picks he moved the offense really well.

Simmons is a potential play, just like some of these G5 guys and even someone like Bailey. Very talented, has shown flashes but not quite proven at the SEC level. Those guys are hard to come by.
quote:

Jayden Maiava

No way he’s portaling right? Surely usc will pony up to keep him?
quote:

Kid underwhelmed before his injury.

He played 1.5 games before his injury. First game they throttled a sun belt team like they should have. 2nd game he played okay yardage wise but did throw 2 picks. Then Trinidad took over and that was all she wrote.

He’s clearly talented. Ball really jumps out of his hand. But not sure you give him a guaranteed starting spot.

Memphis and Tulane are both better than multiple P4 jobs.

I could see that argument. I mean, are you really set up better for success at Cal than those 2 places?
quote:

Candle would be a good hire. He outclasses the MAC by a few miles.

The Toledo program outclasses the MAC by a few miles. Candle himself? I don’t think so.
quote:

Not like the AAC is a huge step up from the SunBelt.

I disagree, the football played in the AAC is definitely better than the fun Belt. So is the average monetary commitment to the program.
