How much experience as a starter did joe burrow have?
Which season? His first season as a starter was 2018 with LSU and he put up worse numbers passing than Beck is on track for. His video game numbers didn’t happen until his 2nd season as a starter and his 4th year of college.

Beck was a 5 star recruit and has played football at UGA for 3 full years. He should be better.
You think all former 5-star players should be able to put up video game numbers by themselves in their first season as a starter? Is that how you think it works? Like I said, there is an unrealistic expectation that some fans have about college QBs.

quote:

We should have better development of our QBs which has been a problem at UGA for many years
What do you define as “better development”? Fromm developed well under Smart; his last season was underwhelming due to not having consistency at WR. Bennet developed well under Smart. Beck is doing a good job in his 3rd season with the program. What makes you think our QBs don’t develop well? You think Beck hasn’t gotten better?

quote:

I'd love to see bobo move to QB coach, he's proven to have great success there. But OC bobo isn't it.
What makes you think Bobo “isn’t it”? Give back a couple of turnovers and a few missed throws and our offense was doing pretty good. The problem we’ve had to date has been injuries and breaking in a new QB, but Bobo is calling a lot of the same plays and using the same concepts as Monken did.

It is amazing so many of y’all posting now absolutely shitted on Stetson Bennett and demanded Carson Beck to be played last year.

You finally got your wish, and now it’s time to fire Bobo and run Carson Beck out of Athens.

A lot of y’all need to look in the mirror. This is one of, if not THE, greatest runs UGA’s ever been on and y’all gonna miss it because yall “coaches” and “geniuses” know more than Kirby and the guys he’s hired to win games.

Honestly was very impressed we didn't get a single false start penalty. I think the only pre-snap penalty was when Brock was accidentally lined up on the LOS.

He’s played pretty well all year and especially so in the second half of his first road start

Beck wasn't a 5*. He was a 4* and #234 ranked player nationally.

Beck - throws ball to Bowers (easy to look good throwing it to Bowers everytime, he’s not getting other ppl involved)

Beck - doesn’t throw ball to Bowers (why isn’t Beck getting the best TE in the country involved)

I just watched a tight end take over a game!! That was incredible, full stop.

Yep. It’s almost as if the coaches are watching the kids each year and starting the best we have available. Beck missed Delp down the middle and the pick was a bad decision…but that was more their DB just made a play. Other than those two plays Beck did what he had to do to win.

The defense let their Non running QB run all over the place and them move the ball when they basically don’t pass is a much bigger issue. We shut this team out last year or the year before.

Prior to 2019?

He had an entire season.

Stetson before 2021?
Almost an entire season in 2020 and another year starting in Juco.

First, that's just not true. Not every QB can make the throws he can.

Even if it were, though, a lot of QBs can make throws. The fact that JaMarcus Russel and Ryan Leaf aren't going to the HOF should tell you there's more to playing the position.

This may be Beck's signature game. I was ice in the 4th quarter. Hopefully he carries this confidence moving forward.

He was the starting QB in 2018 and LSU ended with a 10-3 record. In 2019 he again was the starting QB. Do you want to give beck a year as a starter before attacking him?

I agree. We know he’s been drilled with “composure” and “take care of the ball”. Stet always had that wild streak where he’d just take a shot and more times than not it worked. If Beck can continue to progress he’ll get there too.

I would like to see him put those deep balls on the receiver though. That shot over the middle to Delp was a TD that Stet would’ve hit.

8-13 on 3rd down with final 3 drives of TD,FG,TD Beck played well. It wasn't perfect, the throw early to Delp, etc. The INT wasn't his fault as a 6'3" 200lb WR there is no way in hell you let a DB go through you and take that ball away from you.

Who here crapped on Stetson begging for Beck?

Because it sure wasn’t me. I was skeptical of Stetson his first couple games, but he proved himself and I was on the train ever since.

And I was completely willing to give Beck a chance to prove himself much the same. But dude simply can’t hit a deep pass, he’s consistently not leading receivers/forcing receivers to make adjustments/acrobatic catches, and he’s flat out missed targeting multiple receivers nearly every game who are wide open/likely TD’s (meaning his vision and ability to quickly cycle through targets isn’t good).

As several here have said, “Beck is adequate”, which means we should be fine, right? But he’s only been that against scrubs. So IMO, we’re in trouble when we play a good team.

I don’t understand how this is an unreasonable take and posts like this get downvoted and demeaned because it’s being said from a fan on his couch. As if my eyes aren’t seeing what we’re all clearly seeing.

The alternative? Well I don’t know anymore. I would have rather tried BVG or Stocton when we were playing really bad teams, but the competition’s gonna start picking up from here, so we may be past that point.

I guess I’ll just watch my team and feel uneasy, frustrated, and hope I’m breathing a sigh of relief at the end each week. Which sucks, and was never the case the last 2 years, but oh well. Is what it is I guess.

He's not putting enough air under the ball. Dude has a cannon and seems to forget that finesse is just as important as brut force. Not every pass requires him to beat a DB to a spot or hit a tight window quickly.

This is one of those things that comes with experience, though. Once the game slows down for him (it's getting slower for him with each game he starts), he'll come to throw with more finesse.

He threw what easily could have been another pick that would have, at the minimum, put them in FG range.

People griped about Bennett and wanted Daniel. Bennett won two championships, and Daniel has transferred twice more and got benched at WV.

I saw Vandergriff play a lot of high school ball, and I was pulling for him to be the starter, but I also recognize that he put up a lot of his HS numbers against completely overmatched teams.

The only HS game I saw Stockton play was a head-to-head matchup against Vandergriff. IIRC, he played AA high school ball.

A-Private and AA ball are a long way from starting in the SEC.

I'm going to trust the coaching staff that won back-to-back championships and that has seen every snap this group has taken.

Beck is a first-year starter. He's growing.

This is the first full year he has played. Quit lying.

Beck either needs to figure out how to put air under that TE post down the middle or we need to quit calling it because he misses badly the same way every time

Agreed.

Just you wait. I have a feeling he'll come into his own soon. And it will be a thing of beauty when he does.

(also, he better come into his own soon for our sake
)
