Report: SEC, Big Ten Don't Have 'Much Desire' to Add FSU, Clemson, Other ACC Schools

Not Much Desire To Add ACC Schools
The rampant NCAA conference realignment finally appears to be slowing down.
According to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, the Big Ten and SEC are not looking to add top schools from the ACC anytime soon.
"Industry sources repeat that there is not much desire by either conference to add the likes of Clemson, Florida State, etc. Not that the ACC's seemingly 'ironclad' grant of rights agreement would allow such movement," Dodd stated.
By the 2024 season, the Big Ten and SEC will have a combined 34 teams, many of whom are among the most popular in the NCAA. Most recently, Washington and Oregon jumped from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten, following the footsteps of UCLA and USC.
With Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah following Colorado to join the Big 12, the Pac-12 is down to four teams: California, Stanford, Oregon State, and Washington State. Dodd noted that the Mountain West and the AAC are competing "for any combination" of the four remaining teams. Also, Stanford and Cal were under consideration to be added to the ACC, but both schools fell one vote shy of approval.
The constantly-shifting landscape in college sports is now raising concerns over media rights deals and revenue sharing. For example, Florida State president Rick McCullough said earlier this month that the school "will have to, at some point, consider very seriously leaving the ACC, unless there were a radical change to the revenue distribution."
Dodd noted that these concerns will likely lead to a decrease in movement across conferences for the time being.
"That makes it time to ask whether rightsholders are simply tapped out," Dodd stated. "A combination of reckless realignment and budget realities have forced networks to look at the bottom line."

Good, the acc should stay like it is unless they add someone, imo.

Maybe in 10 years but not now

No duh.
I hope this silences the incessant expansion talk that has polluted this hallowed ground for the past six weeks.
May a curse fall upon the next asshat that starts an expansion thread ... and may anyone who starts a Clemson, FSU, UVA, NC State to the SEC thread, may they get a case of Harrod's Crotch.

You've got to wonder what could have been had the SEC not been in such a hurry to add Texas and Oklahoma.
Not that those two teams are bad additions but getting a Clemson, UNC, Virginia Tech or FSU would have made better sense - geographically - than either of the two Big 12 schools.
Just saying but it is what it is now.

I don’t won’t Clemson in the SEC.
I am sure many SC fans don’t want them here either.

I don’t believe a word any of these assholes say
I can’t believe y’all actually listen to these assholes.
Zero doubt in my mind the SEC will go and poach UNC and UVA for new markets and massive brand names. Imho it’s not that Clemson and Florida state aren’t great brands but it ain’t new territory
Edit: when they do, who knows. But y’all are insane if you think sankey isn’t eye fricking UNC and UVA

New territory matters less now than last time new teams were added. Now it's about creating compelling matchups that will sell (i.e. FSU v. Tennessee sells a lot more than UVA v. Tennessee, etc.)

SEC and Big 10 will put stuff out in the press like this every single day until the day they in fact do add new schools.
They want everyone to know that they are in fact not tortuously interfering in anyone’s conference contracts, they would never ever ever think of poaching a school from another conference. Innocence in appearance will have to do where innocence in fact likely doesn’t exist …
Of course, it’s all moot anyway, ACC schools have a grant of rights that no one has figured a plausible way out of yet. ESPN would rather not pay more for these schools vs the locked in ACC rate, and Fox probably sees diminishing returns now that the B10 stretches across 3 corners of the country.

So the networks can’t afford it right now.

OU is a parasite. Dumb to add them.

Both have promised to stop whoring..at least until that next time period for raping and pillaging.

Josh Pate's sources come through yet again.
He said shortly after the latest round of conference realignment that certain powerbrokers took note of how unpopular the moves were from the perspective of the fans and kind of hinted that they were starting to pay attention to the negative backlash associated with conference expansion/realignment.

First, the geography is fine. Both schools are in the SE quadrant of the United States and are closer to newer sec teams like Missouri, Arkansas and A&M.
Second, Texas and to a lesser extent Oklahoma are so much bigger brands than FSU and Clemson it's not even worth debating.

Beside sankey and Tex/Ou, no one knew about their addition.
And you won’t know about the biggest moves. Things will just happen when they happen

Be patient for what? 2036? Texas and OU could get out in 2025. Would have had to wait another decade for those other schools.
Big Ten would have scooped up Texas and OU in a heartbeat.
