noticed some Oregon and Washington softball players are not happy about realignment. Having to fly 3,000 miles for a weekend series against Rutgers doesn't seem to appeal to them. I don't blame them. Realignment only helps football, so I can see this settling out into a football only thing with the other sports reverting back to regional conferences in the long run. Chip Kelly has already stated this.

I also see the problem of parents and grandparents wanting to see their kids play.

Considering that many of these kids need their academics to mean something (no pro sports), I can see some kids giving it up to focus on education.

I wonder if at some point conferences trade off programs to help with geography related issues

Go to a more regionally aligned conference to play then.

If you want to be a big girl or boy you might have to fly around some.

I can see schools canceling small sports series simply due to the travel costs.

I would suggest they utilize the transfer portal and find a more accommodating school or conference.

This is where they screwed the pooch with all of this. All of these supposed educated administrators and big time coaches should have seen this long ago. Me and my friends have discussed this for years. We all knew eventually this would happen with teams joining mega conferences. We had always said if it did it needed to be just football. Football should by itself not lumped in with all other sports.

When has any of this ever been about the kids?

This is all so much hypocrisy. It's about money. It's always been about money and, to a lesser extent, pride.

ETA: cancel all of the minor sports. Keep football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball, men's and women's soccer. Can all the rest, be done with it all and all the Title IX bullshite. The trannie swimmers, etc. frick'em all.

This is why you don’t reach out of the southeast. Anyone clamoring for the Virginia TV market doesn’t get it.

It’s also a strong idea to only add southeastern football programs.

We learned our lesson with MizzyBilt. Don’t add subpar football programs. That’s the reason OU was allowed in….culture and football.

True, this will hurt softball and baseball and other sports that play several games a week.

This is what happens when people in charge only care about money rather than what’s best for fans and student athletes.

Most of these schools are publicly funded universities so why are we treating them like giant corporations that need to make millions of dollars off sports. I mean I get the need for money to fund travel and upkeep of facilities and such but we have done that just fine for decades without this crap.

I'm wondering if this West Coast move will hurt the B1G because of that - the distance issue?

I wonder if the ACC is glad it failed?

Damn good post. One of those knock on effects that will definitely be felt in the non major sports.

To be fair small sport students and the grandparents won't have a sport to watch at all if football isn't footing the bill.

Probably good for society in the long term. Playing sports in high school and younger is one thing, but after that we should encourage people to get going.

Just being real, I don't care about the small sports or supporting them.

The student athlete got completely fricked in all of this.

I’m not talking about some badass 5 star with a bunch of NIL money.

Your typical student athlete.

All I can say is "if" college football goes to these so-called mega conferences with 22+ teams, I'm probably losing interest and checking out. It is probably going to happen and I'm probably about done with watching it. 2024 should be fun, but after that, goodness sakes alive.

Who would've thought, the regional basis of conferences had benefits??

FTR

I hate realignment
I hate super conference
I hate current structure of NIL
I hate transfer portal even though Alabama has benefitted from it
