Yes I am. There was a big talent gap that we had to go through because of Tubbs mailing it in, after Saban started spending that $$. Chiz came in and started reversing the gap, but he was always going to have to weather the storm of Tubb’s last couple of years. Tubbs gets credit for a lot of the talent the 2010 team had, but he also should get blame for what was waiting in the wings, which is not much. Go look at it
He was in year 4 at that point. That’s when it’s a majority of your players that you recruited are playing.
If he was just getting railed by Alabama that’s one thing. But we lost to every SEC team we played.
Go look at the roster. With the talent on that team, you should be no where near 3-9

I’ll always believe the last few years of Tubbs mailing it in with recruiting cost Chiz. He didn’t have the portal to correct it quick enough.
This is definitely some revisionist history here. I'll grant you there wasn't much to work with in 2011 which is when Tubs last guys were seniors but by 2012 it was all Chiz guys when the wheels fell off.

First Tigerwalk for Chiz and I was one of the first to fist pump him with my kids at the front of the walk....Chiz went psycho and was super pumped. I always remember that with him. I liked the guy. Great motivator. Wish we could have recruited better with him.

Chiz and his fam are great. He’s a great guy and family man and will give you the shirt off his back if you ask.
2010 was one of the greatest moments of all of our lives, what transpired after should be forgotten because much of it was out of his control. Chiz is awesome.

2006 - 10ish
2007 - 10ish
2008 - 20ish
2009 - 20ish - this class was the transitional year I believe
So... not perfect but you can't expect the guy to be retiring with top 10 classes. Admittedly this was at the same time that Saban was beginning to hit his stride, so there was a contrast there, but any new coach is going to come in to a roster that needs improvement.

I like Chizik. He deserves a lot of credit for navigating the team through the shitshow that was thrown at us in 2010. It's hard to understand how he so lost the team in 2012, but his book provides some clues. Regardless, I remember him well.

He tried to convert from the spread to some slow down bullshite Alabama ran because muh NFL and muh not good for the game crap back then. He was influenced by the boosters which is why he recruited so well until the NCAA camped out in 2011. Gus left. We sucked. Couldn’t score. He should have kept the spread and kept hunting for the next great QB. Still a good dude and he deserves a lot of credit for keeping the team focus in 2010. He had a contagious attitude and handled that year better than anyone I could think of. Gus gets credit since Gus completely revolutionized our offense w/Cam and Nick M.

Gus was always the long term plan and Gene was hired as a puppet or figure head who could stay out of the way of the dream team offensive staff. Chiz delivered an unexpectedly great year, but failed overall at establishing a winning culture that could sustain the program long term. Completely lost focus after the NC. He had a very humbling experience which is probably why he’s such a great guy now.

This is rubbish
I can agree with most of the rest.

I think about the championship when I think of Chizik.
Chizik is fine by me.
Chizik is fine by me.

Agreed, the reasons of his demise are not even worth discussing, he brought AU a NC, and he has shown nothing but class since.

Finding a QB1 is HUGE when you are competing against Bama with 75 four/five star recruits.
A QB1 can cover some talent gaps.
Cam and Nick were amazing.
I hope Thorne is amazing.

Jay and many of the PTB were enamored with Gus long before he arrived. We had insiders on ITAT at the time raving over this guy on the regular. Then we turn around and hire a 5-19 (or similar) from Iowa St and bring in a bunch of guys that outshine him. Then years later we have the story of how Gus was told to get out before all hell broke loose in 2012. Seems plausible.

lol…there were a couple until about 2008ish. Can’t remember their names any more. That was my spot from 98 until about 09.

I don’t think he was the plan all along.
But I think even in 2010 most of us had a thought in the back of our mind that Gus might be more responsible for our success than Chizik.
I at least did.

Do we win a NC in 2010 if it is Gus not Chizik coaching?
Posted on 6/14/23 at 12:37 am to Weagle25
Just how he presented it is not accurate. Chizik wasn’t hired to be a puppet. I believe he stumbled for whatever reason and of course I believe Gus gained credibility after leaving, along with the results Chizik had after he was gone. That is totally different to his opening claim imo.

Doubt it.
Maybe, maybe not.
