I met Chiz a couple weeks ago at a restaurant. Guy could not have been more chill and warming. Came and talked for like 20 minutes and took pics. Incredible guy

So - as a fan base how do we remember him? Personally, I’m a fan because 2012 didn’t exist anyway

Delivered the first and only national championship since 1957. Chiz will always be good with me.

Ummm, success. Went undefeated, won a title, and brought in the vast majority of the players that had us :13 away from another title.

ETA: A million extra bonus points for the countless rustled jimmies along the way.

To me, Chiz is a great man and a wonderful representative of Auburn University. He brought us a Natty and performed well in bowl games however, he will also be remembered for losing the team in 2012 as well

Chiz is still well respected by me. Wish he knew how to run a program after success.

Seems like a really great guy and decent human being.

2010 was peak.

2012: I’m not sure I understand how we could crash so hard. I remember Ladarius Phillips getting shot. Some other off field things. What truly wrecked us? Trying to switch offense? Not having a functional QB? Seemed like we had enough linemen to do something like 6-6. I was at most of the games. After LSU close loss, it looked like we mailed it in I sat through UGA 38-0 which could have been 100-0. I watched Johnny Football run sprints.

As the guy who held together a team to win our National Championship against the worst scrutiny in our history. He did a amazing job in 2010. Plus he had a great offensive coordinator to cancel out his crap defense. :)

Chiz was DC of that 2004 defense. Arguably the best defense in our history.

Not sure why he didn't field good defenses during his HC years.

I’ll always believe the last few years of Tubbs mailing it in with recruiting cost Chiz. He didn’t have the portal to correct it quick enough.

2004, Chizik was also DC.
In 2005 Chizik went to Texas as DC and was on a another undefeated team.

3 undefeated teams in 7 years. Sure, he had the 5-19 2 years at Iowa State, but that was a hell of a run.

You’re blaming 2012 on Tubbs?

Kinda strange. Especially when Gus came in the next year and went back to the National championship.

Gus was clearly a better coach than Chizik to me. I think most people realized that even in 2010.

Yes I am. There was a big talent gap that we had to go through because of Tubbs mailing it in, after Saban started spending that $$. Chiz came in and started reversing the gap, but he was always going to have to weather the storm of Tubb’s last couple of years. Tubbs gets credit for a lot of the talent the 2010 team had, but he also should get blame for what was waiting in the wings, which is not much. Go look at it

Chizik is one of the best defensive coaches to ever coach here and was our head coach in 2010. He’s an Auburn success story.

Neutral at best. A natty is legendary no question about it, but equally as legendary on the opposite side of the spectrum is the worst season in AU history.

And making the guys wear those ridiculous bicycle shorts during camp prior to 2012 may actually tip the scale just enough to the failure side lol
