The pac 12 is done as a conference.

The final straw was pulled and espn told them they are not negotiating with them in football and have chose soccer over what they have to offer. Cal has serious financial problems due to not knowing what the tv deal will be and have stopped hiring and put a freeze on spending for big purchases.
Teams will now be given green lights by their presidents to leave the conference without any big tv deal coming. Big 12 has the most to gain. Prob looking at Utah, Colorado and both Arizona schools.
The big ten is in trouble because their former ad didn’t finish their tv deal and now have to repay millions to fox . So they may not be in a position right now to take any more schools on till it all gets sorted out .

and we're already scheduled to go out to Corvalais in a few years. This could be convenient.

It's actually a shame. I know I'm older but I will never stop missing the days of the Big 8, SEC, SWC, Pac 10, ACC, Big 10 and the "Major independents".
All these moves are about money and it started with Notre Dame negotiating a TV contract on its own with a major network. You could even go back farther and blame Oklahoma/UGA vs the NCAA in 1984. This opened the door for ESPN to start live telecasts which was the beginning of the end of college ball as we knew it.

The B10 is and it seems will always be the money and academic leader. Their present misstep changes nothing and won’t change their taking who they want.

Collegiate sports are destroying themselves
No telling where the carnage ends
You may have some schools getting out of the business altogether
No way some of these schools will be able to pay for their non revenue generating sports when it all comes to a head
No way teams are gonna be able to continue to fund ridiculous NIL deals
At some point, fans will say I've had enough and I can spend my discretionary income somewhere else instead of exorbitant ticket prices and cost to attend

Greed from the networks, greed from the conferences to get a bigger share, greed to entice journeyman coaches, greed from NIL.

The Wazzu athletics department is pretty much completely out of money, instituting a complete hiring freeze and expressing concern that they've exceeded expenditures for the year.
This is not a sustainable program or conference. It's time to rip off the bandage, separate the super schools from everyone else and see if the vast majority of FBS schools can drum up enough interest playing a regional second-tier sport in conjunction with the top-flight FCS programs.

Auburn is going out to Berkeley this year. Cal is supposed to make a return trip in 2024.

Academics is a given (ACC gave them a run for their money in the past, but they're obviously on thin ice and adding USC/UCLA puts the Big Ten firmly in first), but I am continuously surprised that the Big Ten gets more television revenue than the SEC.
At some point, especially given what we're seeing in terms of demographic trends of the Rust Belt versus the south, I'd imagine that trend breaks.

It's a win win for them. TV networks (also run by liberals) give the conferences and schools a metric shitload of money to completely ruin the sport that is most popular among white men in the south.

The PAC 12 did this to themselves. They had numerous opportunities to shore up their conference but they opted for academics and country club brunches over midwestern truck stops and community colleges as they describe the Big 12 and Boise State. Now they can all go begging to those lesser thriving conferences for inclusion.
