Saban is obviously the goat, but last year was not his finest. The talent on that team was stupid…
Bryce Young (R1, No. 1)
Will Anderson (R1, No. 3)
Jahmyr Gibbs (R1, No. 12)
Brian Branch (R2, No. 45)
Tyler Steen (R3, No. 65)
Byron Young (R3, No. 70)
Jordan Battle (R3, No. 95)
Cameron Latu (R3, No. 101)

They will say it was their coordinators, but it’s really a decline in culture.
Edit: I’ll add they were one of the most heavily favored preseason national champions in history.

It was most likely a fluke, but deep inside I know that we’re all praying that Saban is losing a step.

A very poorly coached team. From the outside, Will Anderson & BY were the anchors who seemed to keep things from really going off a cliff.

They’ll be begging to have those coordinators back compared to what they have now.

A very poor coaching job that Saban owes some blame in it.
Golding was clearly having off the field issues and his unit looked underprepared to play many weeks. The sheer lack of discipline in assignments and techniques by that unit led to so many needless penalties. They beat themselves as well as their opponent was beating them in the two losses but it was also a repeated problem even in the wins.
Bill O'Brien wanted to go back to the pros after 1 year but he didn't due to his 2 year commitment to Saban. I get the feeling that desire was discussed in the 2022 offseason and Saban pleaded for him to stay. To that end, Alabama's offense looked like it was led by a coordinator who didn't really want to be there. Similarly under-coached, under-prepared, and overly predictable. They were fortunate to have Bryce Young or this would've been a disaster season.

I'll admit that this is true. Penalties way, way up, and discipline way, way down. We are all hoping that the coordinators were the issue because obviously we know discipline has been a hallmark of Saban's teams in the past. But also in the past, it didn't matter who the coordinators were. So, while I'm not quite ready to award Dorothy the ruby slippers just yet, you munchkins might want to start working on your song and dance routines just in case this really is the time the witch is dead. We will see.

100% correct. I’ve tried to have a discussion with them about this but the seem broken.

And a team with no first rounders beat them and went to Atlanta instead...

Lost two games by four points on the last play in both. I blame Golding.

Saban is responsible for culture.

Bama has been putting up enough wins to get by, but if you have really watched them over the last 2 years, you will see that Bryce Young was covering up A LOT of sloppy football.
I think this is because the coordinator jobs have become stepping stone type positions for very ambitious coaches. There is a lot of turnover and they guys who do stay have not been their best.
