Did Bobby Dodd really refuse to play away games at Ole Miss and State because.....

....he felt the State of Mississippi was beneath Georgia Tech?
And isn't that ironic because they are currently in a conference with Clemson and Louisville?

Can’t speak for ole miss, but it wasn’t until like the 1970’s that state got a true home game with most SEC teams (home being in Starkville, not 2 hrs away in Jackson). We would play in Athens then a return game in Jackson….now THAT is some horseshite. Part of the reason our traditional SEC record is so bad.

What was the reason for that?

Didn’t they play a double header at one time in Jackson. MSU vs Alabama and ole miss vs somebody at night?

Probably. State was basically a 3rd world team at the time. Athletic dept selling off games to get cash for the university. Times were tough.

This is his hobby. UGA winning 2 straight natties is the high point of his entire life. And he's grateful for it too, because he was afraid his high point would just be that one high school game where he caught 2 touchdowns.

On account of the violent and abundant racism in Mississippi at the time.
Excuse him for looking after the safety of his student athletes. Guess that’s a bad thing on this board

Yes that is true. He thought Mississippi was the back woods and would not venture over here.
Whiny General Neyland brought his Tennessee team to Starkvegas in 1950 and lost 7-0 to State for their only loss of the year and it cost Tennessee the National Championship.
He said he would never bring a team back to Scott Field. True to his word it would be almost 40 years before UT played at State. A few games were played during that time period but were in a neutral place (Memphis).
Bowl Jackson, had nothing to do with racism. He was just scared that his team would lose at State or Ole Miss. Simple as that.

Do your harbor resentment towards Georgia Tech because of it?

Back in the bad ol' days of segregation...he refused to travel to the State of Mississippi......don't think he refused to play them but he wouldn't go to Mississippi.

Until this century State's stadium was literally a glorified high school stadium.

"McAshan was the first scholarship African American for Tech while the first walk-on African American football player at Tech was defensive back/returner Karl "PeeWee" Barnes who lettered in 1971-72."
Do the math you stupid SOB!

Georgia is the liberal shite hole that put a literal turnip in the Oval Office

State fans refuse to recognize that there was not a place for a team to stay in Starkville after the game until the late 80s. Alabama be didn’t host many home games in Tuscaloosa for the SAME reason until the 90s.

Bobby Dodds legacy lives on in the form of a much smaller pay day for GT.
