It's time to have a conversation about why his teams consistently choke in the NCAA Tournament. Is it the system? His style? I'm not quite sure, but he needs to figure it out.

Who has never underachieved in the ncaa tournament? Besides John Wooden.

Has nothing to do with Nate Oats. He’s won championships everywhere he’s been. It’s an Alabama thing. The Sweet 16 is our absolute ceiling as a program. It is what it is.

If the jerseys were reversed tonight, the Nate Oats team would’ve won handily.

I love Nate, but we totally choked away a final four appearance for the second time in three years. This is clearly a pattern, and he needs to fix it.

Being rid of Quinnerly and Miller will certainly help.

And he seems to have the same plan for every game.

Good coaches adapt. Oats is still a relatively young coach who has an exceptional record. I have confidence in him to figure out that what works best in January & February may not be what’s best in late March.

To be clear, I still have confidence in Oats, and am grateful he's our coach. This was not intended as a bash Oats thread, but to start a discussion about possible tweaks he needs to make to his system to get over the hump.

Go back and look at the state of the program under Grant and Avery. 2 regular season and tournament championships and 2 sweet 16's under Oats in four years. That's a pretty good pattern. Hopefully it's our new floor and he'll get us over the hump soon.

My only real beef with Oats is not calling timeouts. They matter in this sport. Timeouts can break momentum easily and you can get your team to settle in and adjust. I just don’t get it. After the 5-0 run a TO needed to be called. After the 12-0 run it needed to be called. We just let teams runaway with it in that scenario.

Our floor isn’t 31 wins. We had a historically great team and choked in the tournament as all Bama teams eventually do with the lone exception of 2004.

Yes losing the best player in Bama history will certainly help. You are the dumbest person on the internet. Congratulations.

Nate Oates has won the SEC regular season and the SEC tournament in 2 of the past 3 years. He has gotten Alabama to the Sweet 16 two of the last three years. And you want to have some sort of conversation about him? Just GTFO. Yea tonight sucked. The UCLA game stunk but mostly because a good FT shooting team shot less than 50%. There’s not a single 1 seed left in the elite 8, the tournament is random as hell and you want to talk about a coach who has the program in the best shape it has ever been in?

Haha I’m embarrassed by these people like the one you replied to. I knew I should’ve stayed away but it’s painfully obvious how many “Alabama fans” hadn’t watched a game this team played before tonight.

Well, Miller definitely didn't live up to his credentials in the NCAAT. He was horrible pretty much the entire tournament. We needed everyone to be clicking to make a deep run. No one else stepped up either. Just really disappointing we couldn't get anyone going offensively.

I'm not here to knock the coach. We got here. The players have to play.

We fell off badly shooting the ball late in the year and shot poorly in 2 out of our three games in the Tournament. You're not going to beat a good high school team shooting 3-27 from three and slopping around out there with the ball like we did. There needs to be a hard look taken at what happened to the shooting.

It could be that the team never got over the Miles situation. The team was on a roll up until that point and the constant uproar may have been too much.

It doesn't take much to throw a basketball team out of kilter.
I'd be interested in knowing out FG% before and after the shooting occurred.

I disagree that no one stepped up. I think Bediako was a beast. I would give MVP of the SEC tournament and NCAA tournament to him.
