SIAP
The NFL 1st down rule and the "start the clock on incompletes" would kill the college game.

The rule changes under consideration include: running the clock after a first down is awarded, except in the last two minutes of either half; eliminating the option for teams to call consecutive team timeouts; and carrying over any fouls to the next period instead of finishing with an untimed down.

One other potential rule change that has been discussed but hasn't gained overwhelming support is restarting the game clock after an incomplete pass when the ball is ready for play. Currently, the clock stops on an incomplete pass -- and that would continue -- but it would restart when the ball is set down and the official steps away.

Tulane athletic director Troy Dannen, the chair of the NCAA's competition committee, told ESPN there is "very little opposition" to the proposed changes, but more research needs to be done.

If this passes, will be curious to see teams try to run a hurry up after an incomplete pass as defenders are used to getting a guaranteed break and sub in those situations.

Let’s fix a problem no one asked to be fixed. Awesome job NCAA, as usual.

Trying to make the games shorter so they can put more ads in. I hate everything they are doing to CFB. Its all for the almighty dollar.

The year is 2035, the NCAA is floating a rule where the winner of the coin flip will win the game and 3 1/2 hours of ads will be shown immediately after

I know a way to make games shorter! Sell less ad time!

Change the game rather than shorten the amount of commercials.

So instead of shortening the length of the insane amount of TV breaks they will shorten the field time of the actual game thereby decreasing the ratio of action time to commercial time… I am sure the viewing public will appreciate that.
I am in favor of the baseball rule changes because the players and coaches were extending the games with excessive “chess moves.” These football rules eat into end game strategy and decrease teams potential for comebacks.

running clock after first down has long been needed and I support that one
I don't think the clock running after an incomplete will pass and I think that rule is ridiculous
problem is teams are gonna muck up games that way if they don't change rules like pass interference to mirror the NFL
scoring is gonna go way down

This. Will only increase injuries IMO. But who cares about player safety right?

God forbid we shorten commercial breaks instead

If they want to keep losing fans keep the games at 4+ hours long. Just ridiculous.

Less football, more advertising

If they want to shorten the games, put a stop to the fake injuries. You know, Coach gives player "the signal," player nods and drops to the ground grabbing their hammy. Etc.

Josh Pate from 247 went on a rant about this this week on unnecessary roughness. He said the whole point of shortening games is to increase the season to 17 games (the 2 teams in the NC). They were irate bc they claim they are doing this for player safety.

They should start with limiting commercial breaks, but we know they won't do that. $$$
A Div. 3 game averages 45min. less time because they are not televised.

Easy solution to speed up the game is to eliminate automatic IR and give coaches challenge flags like the NFL. NCAA, of course, is going to end up fundamentally changing the way games are played

Just expand the game windows past 3-3.5 hours. Add 15 minutes. 3:30 to 3:45. Nope. Change the game instead

Anything but remove a commercial.
That's all they care about.

Does this make any sense at all? It's not like they'd be able to play double headers if the games were shorter.
