What was the level of competition for USC back in the 70's? For LSU in the 90'2000's ? Plus, in addition to LSU's 6 national titles, LSU was runner up 6 times as well.
Competition was better IMO. A lot of talent made it to campuses across the country that would have never considered it in this era.

no lsu 1 decade does not do it
First Bama has to win 1 to have ANY opinion. Second, titles in the 90s and 2000s would be be 2 decades shiphead!

Meh, some of those are about as relevant as Army and Princeton in best football program comparisons, if you have not done it in 20 years and most of your titles were segregation era then WGAF.

These lists are arbitrary.
Apply some algorithm and go with the data.
For example
(CWS Appearances + (CWS Title * 2)) * CWS Winning Percentage
Basically a point for making it, 2 points for winning it and that sum multiplied times the winning percentage of your appearances to award those that were most successful in Omaha.
Here's those results for every team with 5 or more appearances:
Southern California
Texas
Arizona State
LSU
Miami (FL)
Arizona
Cal State Fullerton
Stanford
Oklahoma State
South Carolina
Florida State
Oregon State
Minnesota
Oklahoma
Florida
Michigan
Mississippi State
Vanderbilt
California
Wichita State
Missouri
North Carolina
Arkansas
Virginia
Clemson
Rice
Georgia
Ole Miss
UCLA
Southern Illinois
Alabama
TCU
Western Michigan
Maine
Penn State
Tennessee
St. John's (NY)
Auburn
Louisville
Northern Colorado
Connecticut
Texas A&M

Not a bad way to do it... though I wonder if we should use CWS tournament games win % as the appropriate metric... Some people had easier roads to the CWS. What if you used Championship efficiency as your aggregate? Just curious...

That may some Alabama level cheating but it pales in comparison to Southern Cal and UCLA.
The PCC was disbanded for cheating so rampant. Ironically when it reformed to become the PAC the only 2 schools in the conference ho had not cheated were not asked to join the PAC.
Here is the Wik page for "Papa" Sam.
Known as "Papa Sam" and "Papa G" to UCLA players, he opened up his Bel-Air, Los Angeles home to the players and became an advisor to many. He bought clothes, cars, and even arranged abortions for players' girlfriends.
Wooden came to UCLA in the 48 - 49 season and was winning 16-22 games a season. Papa Sam shows up in the 1960's and UCLA start losing 1 to 2 games a year on average. Sure seems like Sam was the key to UCLA winning all those banners, not Wooden.
Bill Walton said in an interview he made more at UCLA than he ever made in the pros, but later denied making the statement.

Saying "easier roads" is also arbitrary. Once you get to Omaha, not only are you facing one of the best teams in the country, you are facing one of the hottest teams in the country. I don't think any game in Omaha should be termed as "easy".
I used this wiki to data source the numbers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_College_World_Series_appearances_by_team
If there was a metric I'd change about the algorithm, I would exclude college world series numbers from the wooden bat era. I believe 1974 was the 1st season colleges used aluminum bats. Thus I would prefer to exclude any CWS stats prior '74. Unfortunately, I don't have a dataset with those numbers and it would be a pain in the butt to go thru every team on the aforementioned listed and manual put together post 1974 numbers.

Yeah that USC stat is pretty wild. Perfect baseball weather year round. You'd think they would be able to field a decent team every year
They barely give a shite about college football. Doubt most USC students even know anything about the baseball program. Very little investment.

LSU has been runner-up only ONCE -- in 2017 to Florida, not 6 times.
USC has been runner-up TWICE -- in 1960 to Minnesota and in 1995 to Cal-State Fullerton.
The level of competition then was equal to today's.
USC won 5 straight CWS 1970-1974, and 6 of 7 CWS including the 1968 title, which is unprecedented in college baseball history.

USCw baseball is dead. Only one trip to a regional since 2006.
Wait they’ve only made one postseason appearance in the last 15+ years? They are not an elite or top program anymore then.

11 is nothing, I think FSU has been over 20 times without a title.

lsu great years but basically a 1 decade wonder
Since, they're consistently one of the top programs in college baseball. After their "1 decade wonder" era (1991-2000), they've won another championship, gone to Omaha 7 times, and super regionals 13 times.
That in 21 seasons is more than most programs have all-time.

agreed but 20th all time in wins...Bama 16th ..says alot like I said...jj will have a great decade..enough for 3 all time
