Leach has taught us all not to take ourselves too seriously. His unfiltered style - talking straight from his heart without fear of reprisal - is a virtue we should all develop. You can do that with a pure heart and a good moral compass.

Bud, you get it. You're alright.

Actually the update was they moved him to a hospice type setting but the type where they have medical equipment. I forgot what they call them Equipment to keep someone alive I mean. Hospice is a little different. Usually those are more like nursing homes kinda as far as the setting. At least my moms was like that

I can speak on this. My mom had a brain aneurysm, massive, no brain activity, no hope. Her sister wanted to fly down and see her so we decided to keep her on life support for a day or two against my best judgment. The hospital told us we had to move her to hospice to do so because they can’t admit her or keep her in the er in that condition. We had to move her to hospice for the night and next day. Keep in mind she had no brain activity and her body could not sustain life on its own. So yeah, I can see why they would move him to hospice even if there is no brain activity.

So “very little” brain activity. Stopping medical equipment wouldn’t necessarily be the end? General question.

This news is just beyond terrible. Leach has always has been one of my favorite characters in college football. Damn fine coach, innovative mind, speaks his mind in today's offended BS culture. Just a sad damn day.

If you don't think he is a big chunk of what makes college football great, then you don't know your arse from your elbow.

All of this makes me sad.

I couldn't say it any better. His teams were always entertaining to watch. When 99% of all other coaches give nothing but cliche interviews, Leach always spoke his mind and didn't take himself too seriously. I like people that are easily relatable and are colorful. I hope he pulls through.

Correct. We had to “pull the plug” on my grandpa with very little brain activity back in 2010. Summbitch kept going for like 3 more days. Tough mother trucker.

Yeah, I have lost a couple of family members to similar circumstances, one a head injury and the other an aneurysm, and both persisted for awhile after life support was withdrawn and they were moved to in-patient hospice care. My uncle lasted several days. Its tough.

I can speak to this also. My MIL had a brain bleed that ceased all brain function except in the brain stem. They kept her alive on a ventilator until we flew to Florida from Texas. We said our goodbyes and she was gone within 20 minutes of the removal of the breathing tube.

I forgot he made a stop in Norman. Was that right before Texas Tech?

Yes, he installed plays that ended up transforming the B12. Had a ninja play that he used 6 plays in a row vs atm and they had no clue how to defend. What an offensive genious he was, groundbreaker. His qb was none other than Josh H, (Tenn HC)

Not referring to the current situation…

‘Very little brain activity’ is very ambiguous… if a brain suffered anoxic (deprived of oxygen) injury, the location of the injury could be the frontal cortex which affect higher brain functions, the motor cortex, and/or the brain stem.

The brain stem housed most of our autonomic functions like breathing, temperature control, heart rate…

So if the brain injury only hit the frontal cortex, but spared the brain stem, shutting off the ventilator/pulling the plug on life support will not stop the patient’s respiratory drive… they are in a vegetative state… pretty horrific state.

So the brain injury also affected the brain stem functions, then the ventilator is the only thing that is keeping the patient ‘alive’… pulling the plug will let the patient pass…

Usually, the doctors will perform several tests to determine ‘brain death’, a blood perfusion scan will show how much brain is still using blood, and they will momentarily withdraw sedation and paralytic drips, then stop the ventilator to see if the patient will exhibit any spontaneous respiratory efforts.

Some family members would want to witness these tests to make absolutely sure of their decisions… it is pretty traumatic for the family members and even for the medical staff to be there… hoping to see a spontaneous breath…

My grandmother had a stoke. She lasted over a week after we pulled all fluids. She was a tough old bird so something like this could take a while.

The entire College Football family is praying for Mike Leach. The Notre Dame Football office posted the following statement. The photo is from "The Grotto" on campus:
