I’ve long thought that Alabama was the premiere brand and program in cfb, but recent history is suggesting otherwise.

It is interesting how a team that only lost by a total of 4 points total on the road got left out of the playoffs for a team that lost by 22 points at home.

It made me think, why did the committee pick Ohio state over Alabama?

Is it because the Sec West is so bad this year? It is really bad and thankfully the East has done its part to maintain the integrity of the conference.

but is that it?

Pretty clear that the committee thinks Ohio state is a better brand than Bama. And while that is a subjective perception, at the end of the day things like brand presiteige are in the eye of the beholder.

And the committee has spoken

On the selection show the other day, Rece Davis said Ohio State is 4-1 in the debates for the last couple of spots in the playoffs. Only one time have they not snuck in, so they have gotten the benefit of the doubt more than other program. Hopefully Georgia just destroys them so in the future they don’t always get the benefit of the doubt.

Suppose the TCU pick left bama out of the CFP and not Ohio State. I am well aware of the rankings and seedings but suppose it was TCU

Alabama is more prestigious than Ohio State. Alabama goes back but Ohio State does not rise till after WWII and University of Chicago in the B1G decides to deemphasize sports including CFB where the Maroons are the lead dog.

- More eyeballs in the B1G than the SEC
- B1G has lobbied hard for 2 B1G since they were shut out and pushed for expansion
- SEC / Alabama fatigue

Looking at how the B1G scheduled the committee rewarded weak scheduling but let the B1G get away with it.

Bama and it’s not even close! Take away Bama’s dominance the past 10-15 years, and it’s still Bama. OSU is propped up by ESPN yearly. Besides Bama, other blue bloods ahead of OSU include..
USC
Michigan
ND
Texas
Oklahoma
Hell, I’ll even say Tennessee!

I think you're right. This isn't even only about Alabama.

The committee literally said they value the B1G over the SEC and many dumbass arse fans agreed with them buying into the 2 vs 1 loss nonsense.

Their last game was a 22 point loss at home. Smh

The Ohio State and it isn't even close. The main reason CBS dumped the SEC was to get Ohio State. The Alabama brand was not strong enough to prevent that.

Ohio State will still be standing tall long after the Saban era is over.

Brand?

Are they supposed to put a two-loss team in over a one-loss team based on brand?

Is the committee supposed to consider "all of the seasons" or the season in question?

This seems like a really big leap to take a shot at Bama.

Most of the years they’ve given Overrated State the benefit a B1G team doesn’t get in the playoff if they don’t.

The committee chose OSU over Bama because they only have 1 loss and Alabama has 2, it has nothing to with the committee thinking who is the more prestigious brand. As a Bama fan I know we have been one of the best programs in the nation since Saban arrived, but in no way shape or form did we deserve to be in the playoffs. I watched every Alabama snap this year and we did not pass the "eye test" as one of the 4 best teams if I am being honest. Way too many penalties and stupid bonehead plays that there was no way the committee was letting them get in the CFP. It's crazy to think as undisciplined as we were that we only lost by a combined 4 points in 2 losses It's about dang time the SEC East has picked up the slack, the West carried the conference for a very long time.

It was strictly one loss versus two losses. I don't think it was any more complicated than that.

Switch teams and losses and I think it would still be one loss versus two losses.

Just the fact that the committee would have had to make a choice between a two loss Bama and a one loss OSU should show you they value the Alabama brand more. You should do better than this

It couldn't possibly be that Ohio State has 1 loss and Bama has 2.

It's because Ohio State had 1 loss to a team that could be the national champion while Alabama had 2 losses to two teams that had at least 2 losses.

The logic's not hard. I mean, it's Georgia hard, but not normal hard.
