This coupled with a solid defense.

This. Georgia was able to do it last year with Davis, Wyatt and Walker. I’m sure they’ll try it again this year.

Your front 3-4 (including an edge guy here)have to be able to control the LOS and stop the run. If they can run with any success they get to moving really fast. Bama couldn’t, LSU and UF couldn’t. We will see if upcoming opponents can.

You just gave up 49 points. You don't get to talk defense.

You don't. You just pray for a few big mistakes or miscues.

Notice how all these great "running QBs" emerged not long after every defensive coordinator in the country fell in love with the 3-4 ? Especially when it let them rush three and drop eight ?

Henderson is great. No doubt. To slow him down, though, it takes two defensive ends and two defensive tackles. Old school 4-3. Tackles hold the interior, ends set the edge and don't go past him on the pass rush. It starts there.

And you sure as shite don't simply drop your linebackers into flat zone. Because he'll just run around that. And guarding grass, rather than receivers or rushing the passer, is dumb any damn way. But, it's what many defensive coordinators love to do. I reckon it just makes them feel better. That they "defended the entire field".

I'd like to see an old school "nickel" against him. Four linemen, two LBs, and five DBs. Or, if I'm seeing this correctly, just four LBs that can run like Kentucky's.

Easy. Go look at tape of JH’s losses at UCF. He hasn’t changed the offense, just has better players to run it. But that should be washed out facing higher caliber defenders.

I think they always lost to Memphis every year? What was so special about Memphis’s defense. I remember when Pitt beat them on the last play of the game on a trick play. LSU stopped that offense in that Bowl once. Auburn lost. It’s a fun offense to watch for sure right now.

They line up receivers across the width of the field and challenge you both horizontally and vertically every play. The QB is a great deep ball thrower but also a great runner if you take too many men out of the box. So what’s the answer?

Honestly?

Pressure...

Alabama thought their ends were good enough just to rush 4 the whole game and that they could just sit and play Man behind that... It didn't work.

They should have blitzed way more than they did. I'm shocked that they didn't. Maybe they were concerned that they didn't have an answer for Hooker's scrambles, but turning Hyatt loose on safeties didn't seem like a better plan. Getting us in negative plays kills our drives.

Yep. Same as Brad White brought against the Mississippi State Air Raid last night.

It's a mentality that runs counter to the mindset of just about every Defensive Coordinator. Because they think in terms of "how not to give up a touchdown this play".

Against Hooker and Tennessee, just give up the notion of a shut-out. Set your goals at 28 points given up. Then attack, attack, attack. Knowing that they'll get a few plays. Maybe even a couple over the top of your pressure.

It doesn't matter. If you sit back, they'll get ALL the plays.

Hyatt is a twig. First of all, put a physical corner on him and knock him on his arse before he gets off the line.

You have to run and gun with these Vols.

No way you can keep up if you’re hanging your hat on three yards and a cloud of dust. You’re begging to get blown out with that game plan.

The way their QB is playing they will be hard to contain all year. Most systems are hard to stop when executed so well.

#10 ranked rush defense in the country, Vols held bama to 3.7 yards per carry and 114 yards. UGA don’t have a back as talented as Gibbs either.

Do what Alabama did last night, except for the part where they kept lining up a safety on a speedy slot guy that leads to busted coverage on the same exact WR for a TD 5 times.

I'm looking forward to what Kirby and UGA try against TN's offense. But let's not pretend like Kirby hasn't had his own "struggles" against elite offenses. That's just the nature of the game these days.

UT is good but a terrible Pitt team took them to overtime and they barely beat a bad Florida team. They are good but this isn’t bama from 2 years ago or lsu from 3. UGA and Kentucky both will be a challenge.
