Ole Miss rebels sharks.
They need to go ahead and drop rebels.

Instead of "Col Reb" they need to change his name to "Uncle Lane" and bring him back....

The walking bully logo is still around. Just not used as much.
It was a victim of the housecleaning in 2004 to try to find the curse that had fell upon the program then. Dumped Nike, dumped the interlocking MSU, dumped the walking Bully.
Turned out it was one coach washing out and a subsequent terrible hire. Who knew?

I'm convinced there are some miserable sumbitches out there who won't be satisfied until every SEC team is a generic shell of itself.

Side note
I was listening to the radio broadcast Saturday and Kellum still refers to them as Rebels.

The state of Mississippi was the last US state banner to feature a Confederate emblem as it flew over its capital building. It wasn't until 2020 they decided to retire the emblem. By then, all other southern states had long removed the emblem. So who really caved first?

Which hopefully should be permanent, as it should have been since 2003

Because that is literally still the name of the team and has been since the 1930s. A lot of people can’t differentiate between a mascot and team names.

Actually not true, look at Georgia's flag. It is based on the first national flag of the Confederacy.

Southern Miss was better when they were the southerners and not golden eagles with General Nat as the mascot (Nathan Bedford Forrest) and mascot would ride a horse onto the field in a confederate uniform

Ole Miss should have never stopped playing slow Dixie

They’re still the rebels. Why don’t recruits associate that with the confederacy?

There are plenty of folks who would argue that the changes made were enough to change perspective. It's been altered to the extent that it's in the court of debate. Not so with the one that was flying over Mississippi's state capital.
