2008 3-2 games vs miss state
Auburn had 315 yards of offense. 14 first downs
Miss state had 116 yards of offense 6 first downs
Auburn 3 turnovers
The Buyout Bowl today
Auburn 217 yards of offense 15 first downs
Mizz 315 yards of offense 14 first downs
Mizz 2 turnovers
Today was a worse day than 3-2. In 2008 the defense played great today nothing was good other then Jordan-Hate voodo

Cloudy memory. You’re looking at numbers. MSU low offense was not because our great defense, they were just inept. We had more yards and got 3 damn points.
3-2 was way worse. You can’t leave the scoring out of your stats.
Just looked it up and kickers were 1 for 4 in the 3-2 game so that is about a wash.

Today sucked for sure, but that 3-2 game made me question every decision I'd ever made.

We were 1-4 on FGs today but got saved by the offsides

This was worse. We deserved to win the 3-2 game. This game was a fluke win. It was gifted. This was at home. It felt more like a loss. Two more weeks of Harsin

That’s what I’m thinking. Sure, 3-2 is an easier game to remember as a historical event. The score is what counts.
But we LOST today. We didn’t win shite. Missouri was running straight into the end zone. Guy didn’t even need to stretch out his hand.
At least in 2008, we can say we made the plays to win the game.

I think the score made 3-2 so bad. 5 points total just sucked

I think what made the score so grotesque was the safety we gave up at the end. Sure, it was a sloppy game, but the defense gave up 116 yards.
And, I guess I’m older, but I remember a time before the offensive explosion. 3-0 was not uncommon. Low scoring, defensive games were the norm.
It’s that damn safety that we gave up, right there at the end, that cemented that game in infamy.

Mississippi State was awful that year. AWFUL. On both sides. That game wasn’t some SEC defensive slugfest. State’s offense could have played on the field for their D and still stopped our offense we were so bad.
It was a completely inept offensive performance by Auburn brought on by the mind numbing hire of Tony Franklin and Tuberville trying to implement a spread system without the players.
The defense was better that year than this one but they too had a few games where they just collapsed.
We also went into that game with a lot of hope for the season, we were ranked top 10. In the end both Croom and Tuberville were fired at the end of the season.

Tubs was ahead of his time with the spread idea. He didn’t have coaches to implement it.

It was hard to explain the feeling after that game. I did not know what to do.
The only Auburn win that made me feel that way was when we beat Virginia Tech in the bowl game in 2004.
I was like, frick it. Who cares

From an Auburn perspective today was worse

The reason people think today was worse is because they are still living it. Let’s revisit in a year or two.

Oh my goodness, I had totally forgotten about Franklin being our Offensive Coordinator for that game. Wow…

Hopes were high coming into the season because it looked amazing in the OT against Clemson in the Peach Bowl. Cox had a career high in yards and everyone was over the moon about the "spread eagle" lol.
Franklin doesn't deserve all of the blame. The BBQ gang kind of hamstrung his effort to implement the offense.

He not only didnt have the coaches to implement it, he actually had coaches on the offensive staff who actively tried to sabotage it.
