I like Mel but holy cow what an overpay that was

I get the football programs make a ton of money but these coaches salaries have gotten ridiculous. With the exception of Saban who is probably underpaid

Doesn't Saban have a clause that automatically makes him the highest paid coach or am I confused?

With the mess that their athletics department was in, he is earning every penny.
It was Sandusky but with our daughters instead of sons.

It's more nuanced than that. From the previous negotiation of his contract:
quote:
The specific language in Saban’s deal states that the Alabama coach and the university will meet annually on Feb. 1 “for so long as necessary to determine the marketplace trends regarding head football coach compensation.” Furthermore, Saban’s contract states that the Crimson Tide will be required to increase Saban’s “total guaranteed annual compensation” if it becomes less than the average of either the three highest-paid SEC coaches or the five highest-paid FBS coaches.

Very odd the Jimbo to WVU non-denial came out this week.
Agents earning the cut.

what would happen if multiple coaches all had that written in their contracts?

Football is the #1 revenue generator for colleges. In 20 or 21 A&M was estimated at 147 M in revenue. If my options are 10 M a year for Jimbo, who I am confident can keep/make A&M good to great, or 5 M for someone like Muschamp, Herman, O, etc then I am all for paying the extra 5 M a year because the difference in revenue generation between a healthy program and a shite one will be way more than 5 M a year.

Spurrier led this list in 2000, $1.9. Saban in 2010 at $5.2.
Is this a bubble? I know as long as the money keeps pouring in, this will continue, but…. Good grief.

That's embarrassing for Brian Kelly and Mel Tucker

Actually Saban will be #1 this year.
Saban - $10.7
Dabo - $10.5
Saban's average will be $11.2.
But Saban has a standing clause that his contract is evaluated each year.

Perfectly reasonable inflation....

Do believe Saban is set to be the highest paid next year at $11.7M
