Can he replicate his sign stealing on defense? If yes, he’ll do fine

Nebraska fans are worried about if they can get Frost fired after a loss to OU, but wait for the heat to get turned up on Venables after they lose to Nebraska.

Can you imagine the mutual meltdowns this would cause?

Actually OU gets Renaud sept 19th that puts them number 2, hicks commitment in late September, along with Bowen flipping OU will be number 1 class. Still favored for Akana, and Coleman, and pushing hard for Marcus deal, and Yaites. OU can pretty much secure the top class with 5 of the last 7 commits they are favored for.

If we’re making broad comparisons. Brent is more like Kirby than anything else.

- Brand, check. OU ranked the number 4 brand in college football. Even with upper middle-class performance for the last decade people still see Oklahoma as a top brand in football. This means a lot to the amount of money coming in, and the image quality recruits look for to enhance their own brand.

- Experience, check: Brent has coached under two coaches with national championship trophys and another HOF coach that built one of the worst teams in college football history to a powerhouse. He’s coached defense against every single type of offense imaginable and figured out how to break it down. He’s learned how to run a well oiled machine in three programs that were rebuilding or starting from scratch.

- Recruiting, check. Brent had magically turned a team floating around the 40s in recruiting to a very possible 1-5 class, in two months. Oklahoma is landing guys in every part of the country. Brent has strong ties to Florida, Texas and the Carolinas. Couple that with OU strongly recruiting California for a decade, I don’t think this is a flash in the pan. In fact, if he has even a mediocre 2-3 loss season for a couple years, I think this trend sticks long term.

Muschanp is a garbage comparison. At any given time, he’s not had 1-3 of the things Brent has before playing a down with his new team. I expect a more Ohio State type experience. Wins a championship every 5-7 years, a dub 2-4 loss season twice a decade.

I look forward to the OU game viewership skyrocketing this year from SEC fans watching Brent, hoping he fails.

Good, thoughtful post, RedDirt.

And now it's officially game day. I can't wait to get the BV era started!

Generally true, though last year Baylor and Ok State won mostly relying on defense. Maybe things are shifting in that conference. Or possibly last year was an anomaly.

Oklahoma State just beat Jim McElwain's Central Michigan 58-44 on Thursday night. Safe to assume last year was an anomaly for them

Joining the SEC is going to help Texas, and hurt Oklahoma. It will affect A&M, LSU and Arkansas as well. All that East Texas talent will start committing to the Horns once those kids start seeing Texas in a high quality game every Saturday. Texas will get the cream and the aforementioned will get whatever is left over

Brent needs Dabo's gentle mentorship to be successful and it is tougher to recruit kids to Oklahoma than Clemson due to the scenery deficit.

Oklahoma has always recruited better than Clemson but their recruits aren't as talented especially on defense

Dumb statement. He’s out recruiting Clemson at the moment. Intelligence not your strong suit.
