Change is coming to the Alabama football radio broadcast booth this September.
The school announced Wednesday that longtime voice of the team Eli Gold will be sidelined this fall due to health issues. Chris Stewart, the play-by-play man for Alabama basketball and other sports will take his seat in the booth. Stewart has been a sideline reporter in recent years on football broadcasts.

I hope this doesn’t end up forcing him out. He’s given so much for so long you’d love to see him go out on his own terms

Hope he gets well and is back at the games soon. Take care Eli.

I hate that for him. This very well could be the end of the road for him. My late grandmother always loved listening to Eli & Snake calling a game, even when it would be on TV. She would turn the TV off and crank her radio up!! I hope I am wrong and I wish Mr Gold and full and speedy recovery! Chris Stewart is a great replacement and will do well.

Stewart will do great, but I hope Eli recovers quickly and will be OK long term.

Hope Eli recovers but I’m looking forward to Chris taking over this Fall.

When Chris gets in that chair it’s going to be hard to get him out.

Chris has had his own health issues. I hope those are behind him now.

They've now changed the article to state that he will only miss the start of the season.

Anybody know what exactly is wrong with Eli?

Hope he has a swift recovery. That said, I wish he’d hang it up and pass the batton to Stewart.

Some of you will not believe this, but you can love Alabama football and not be an Eli fan. I’ve never cared for his voice or style. Nobody has a stripe down their “pant” and you never know the score or time remaining when you have to listen on the radio. He sounds like Mickey Mouse. I do wish him well on a personal level but am ready for Chris to take over.

I’ve never associated Eli with Alabama football like some may have. Although he’s been the voice for as long as I can remember, he’s never been iconic in the sense of other college football radio voices. I like him but radio didn’t play as big of a role in my fandom as it may have for others.

Eli Gold to miss 2022 season due to health
To be clear, the reports say he will miss the start of the 2022 season, not the whole season.

Read the clarification note at the bottom of the article. At the time of publication and when I started this thread, it was stated he was out for all of 2022. UA’s release later in the day Wednesday mentioned otherwise.

Get-Well Cards for Eli Gold Arrive Across SEC Country (Tide100.9)
It truly warmed my heart to witness the loving support that many have for long-time Alabama Crimson Tide play-by-play broadcaster Eli Gold. He has “served as the voice of the Crimson Tide since 1988 but due to health issues, he will not be available at the beginning of the year,” as reported by the Tuscaloosa Thread.
Tide 100.9 personality Ryan Fowler announced on his show a few weeks ago that he would be gathering get-well cards for Eli Gold which he felt was “an easy way to let Eli know how much we care about him,” said Fowler.
Once other personalities from Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa found out about Fowler’s plans and we all jumped in to help spread the word on our radio shows.
The get-well cards have been rolling in like the Tide for the beloved veteran broadcaster. In our last count, we have received get-well cards and notes of encouragement from across SEC country.
The majority of the cards came from the Yellowhammer State but we received numerous cards from neighboring states like Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia. Also, we received cards from New Mexico, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and so many other states.
Let’s continue to uplift Eli Gold in positive thoughts and prayers as he recovers from health issues. We all look forward to the day he returns to the broadcast.
Fowler said that “maybe we can help encourage him to improve his health and his spirits with a simple card or note. We can also let Eli know how much he means to the Bama nation.”

Well, let's break that down. There's a reason it's called a "pair of pants." That's because each leg is a pant leg. Therefore lots of people have a stripe down their pant, and most of those same people have stripes down their pantS. So, it turns out Eli isn't the dummy here. ;)

You got me dude. I must have missed the games when we are only wearing one pant instead of a pair of them. They must have cut the other off with a scissor.
