Matt Corral regrets going to Ole Miss - Charlotte Observer

quote:

“I took the easy way out because I felt I could play right away,” he said about his decision to go to Oxford, Miss. “Knowing what I know now and trusting my instincts and trusting my work ethic, I would have went to a place that would have made me compete.”

Kind of feels like his point is more about choosing what he thought was the easy way out because of competition than wishing he hadn't gone to Ole Miss like the headline says, IMHO.

A lot of players "settle" for this kind of thing. Especially when they go to one of the landmass or Big 12 or Pac 12 schools.

Not a fan of the headline and I doubt he’s actually saying “I regret I went to Ole Miss” but it’s still not a good quote at all to be out there.

I’d be surprised if he didn’t make a correction at some point.

I mean he felt compelled enough to play in a “meaningless” Sugar Bowl despite having some 1st Round projections

Bizarre quote with bizarre timing

Looks like it worked out OK for him. He got to play in an open offense. I think his words were twisted a little.

I'm wondering who he thinks would have made him a better quarterback than Lane Kiffin? Kiffin isn't exactly known as a QB killer, in fact he took a RB/WR/Safety and turned him into a record setting passer at Bama

Matt Corral got where he is by playing for Kiffin. I'm not sure he could have possibly have been in a better situation. Weird take by him. His offer list was:

Alabama - wouldn't have ever played
Florida - would have played under Mullen, not sure playing for a lame duck coach his last season would have been better
USC - train wreck
Arizona St - perpetually average
Georgia - would have been there with Fromm and Fields as a freshman.
A&M - Jimbo's offense doesn't exactly fit his skillset as a QB

It feels like a sentence removed from a much longer answer about maturity or something. Just feels real random. Because obviously Kiffin helped him tremendously, but he didn't commit to Kiffin. He and Kiffin kind of fell into eachothers laps.

True, no idea how Matt Luke landed the #4 pro-style QB in his class

Matt has talked about how much he matured after Kiffin got there. Remember he was about to transfer out under Matt Luke. So I am guessing this is more of a clickbait headline than Matt saying he wishes he hadn’t gone to Ole Miss.

Probably more that he wishes he hasn’t gone to ole miss for the wrong reasons.

I wouldn't blame the guy for wanting to leave a coach who benched him for John Rhys Plumlee either

Maybe it’s a slightly misleading headline but that’s a stupid and kinda shitty comment to make. He needs to learn how to speak better-er or more tactful fo sho.

Corral will flame out in the NFL. He's a weak, broke dick player that will wash out in the NFL. I was a fat player that ran a 4.8 40 in HS. I'm in much better shape now but I can't play football. No way I could play safety.

He said he went to ole miss so he wouldn't have to compete. I agree, it doesn't say I hated being at Ole miss but he does throw some shade on the program by saying basically they didn't have the dudes at QB these other schools had and I knew that. I would have just kept this comment to myself.
